There's a phenomenon that is sometimes called the "red car syndrome." When you're thinking about red cars, you'll start seeing them everywhere. The same is true with anything you think about a lot. As Denzel Washington once said, "You become what you constantly think about."

In the midst of the busyness of the holiday season, the pressures of the final weeks of a semester, and the current craziness of our world, try to look for things that give you joy. As you focus on joy, hopefully the "red car syndrome" will help you to find it in more and more places.

If you adopted a family for Community Christmas, your gifts are due back by December 15! Please make sure your gifts are wrapped and clearly labeled for which student they go to.

If you are one of our families that signed up for Community Christmas, you can pick up the gifts, food, and a blanket for each student at one of two times next week: December 16 from 6 - 9 pm or December 17 from 6 - 9 pm. We highly encourage everyone to come during these two time slots, but if you cannot make it December 16 and 17, please contact us at 972-843-6000 or at info@communityisd.org.

Due to COVID-19 and the major increase in participation and donations, Community Christmas distribution will be slightly different this year. We will be handing out gifts on December 16 and 17 from the baseball batting cages, located on the southeast side of Braves Field. A map is attached below!

There's still plenty of time to come hang an ornament on the Unity Tree outside of the Terry Pope Admin building! We've provided plenty of ornaments which are located in a box right next to the tree.

If you're lucky, there might be a special guest around to take selfies with you when you hang your ornament!

The doors open for teachers on Monday, January 4, and classes begin at the NEW Edge Middle School on Wednesday, January 6!

To commemorate this great step forward for our school district, we'll be welcoming in our parents and community members on Saturday, January 9! We'll hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony and offer guided tours of the new facility and the recently updated baseball and softball complexes!

The renovation of the former Community High School into the new Edge Middle School is almost complete! Dr. Roosevelt Nivens toured the updated facility on Wednesday, December 9, with the Edge Middle School PTO. If you'd like to see the photo gallery provided by Dr. Nivens, please click here!

Premiered on November 12, the video above is the artist rendering of what Community Elementary School #3 will look like when it is finished in Fall 2022! The new school will be located in Josephine at the intersection of Cotton Gin and Double R Pass.

If you don't know, Brag on a Brave is a way for you to compliment a Community ISD employee, student or volunteer that you observe demonstrating the Traits of a Brave: being generous, humble, passionate and wise. The nomination form is available at https://bit.ly/2TU0Cd1. The deadline for December's Brag on a Brave is December 31!

In one of its best seasons, the Community High School Mighty Braves Band finished just one place away from advancing to state in the UIL Marching Contest. The band was name First Alternate at the Area marching competition after receiving a Superior Rating at the Regional just a few weeks earlier.

Utilizing dual credit opportunities, 12 Community High School seniors are on track to graduate with an associate's degree from Collin College in the spring. They'll make up the first group from CHS to accomplish this! Learn more by clicking here or on the picture above!

Just as a quick reminder, here are some of the guidelines that the CDC, TEA, and UIL have asked us to follow in order to prevent COVID-19 from spreading on campus.

1. Close contact is defined by the school district as being within six feet of infected person for 15 minutes or longer with one or both parties not wearing their masks. Anyone determined to have been in close contact with someone will be contacted by the school district and asked to quarantine.
2. If both people wear their masks, that is not close contact.
3. If the interaction is less than 15 minutes, that is not close contact.
4. If the distance was more than six feet, that is not close contact.
5. If you are in secondary contact (contact with a person who was in contact with a COVID-19 case), you do not have to quarantine.
6. Social distance whenever possible by remaining at least six feet from anyone not in your household
7. When it is not possible to be socially distant, wear a mask properly - i.e. completely covering your nose and mouth
8. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and warm water as often as possible
9. Flu season and strep throat season are right around the corner. Getting a flu shot, washing your hands, and socially distancing are a great way to keep the flu from spreading
