Community Crew News #16
December 3rd, 2023
Once a year as an Expeditionary Learning School, we have the opportunity to attend the EL National Conference, ELNC23, and this year is was in Denver! Seven Conway staff members attended this year as presenters. Mrs. Brumback, Miss Ennis, Mrs. Banks, Mrs. Farmer, Mrs. Ellsworth and myself lead learning for a national audience. Our teachers shined and the feedback was remarkable. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they returned to lead again next year.
The conference hosted over 2,000 educators from across the country and world. EL President and CEO, Scott Hartl, declared, "what we're seeing across the country, is a pattern of El educators making a difference for students". The three days afforded rich learning opportunities, inspiring stories of service and student achievement.
Our EL Model is rooted in exceptional practices that are deeply connected to our EUSD Framework for the Future and our Learner Profile.

It was with immense gratitude and humility to be the recipient of the prestigious Silverberg Leadership Award. This Leadership Award is a testament to Conway’s collective commitment and shared vision. Each member of our staff has embraced providing rigorous learning, fostering relational character development, and instilling a sense of civic responsibility in every singer learner. It was such a honor to have those in attendance come up and be representatives of our entire Conway Crew — dedicated teachers, staff, and, most importantly, our incredible students that I felt were all there in spirit.
Thank you to our school Staff CREW for the commitment that you make every day to the our learners. I am grateful for your dedication to our school's mission and vision everyday. You are all striving to meet every EPIC goal that we've set this year. Thank you for your ongoing flexibility, professionalism and talents.
We are in this together and believe, We Are Crew, not passengers.
Always in crew,
Tina Meglich, Principal

Need Caring Heart Nominations
There’s still plenty of time to submit a nomination for the annual Caring Hearts Awards, presented by the Escondido Education Foundation. These awards recognize members of the education community – individuals and organizations – working under the radar to go above and beyond in their support of students. These “caring hearts” do not seek recognition for themselves, and the foundation is in need of your nominations. Directions and forms are available in all school offices, at the front desk of the Carilyn Gilbert Education Center, 2310 Aldergrove Avenue, and online at this link. The nominee can be any school staff member, parent volunteer, community member, or community organization. Nominations are due by 4 p.m. December 18 at the district office, and the awards will be presented at the annual foundation dinner on February 9.

Birthday Announcements
You may ask how do we celebrate birthdays at Conway?
We have two unique ways that we celebrate.
First, in the main office you can fill out a form to have your child's birthday acknowledged on our electronic marquee to display a 24 hour message. The cost is only $5. If you cannot make it into the office, you can complete the electronic form https://forms.gle/3dMLHhiK5MTXJdpL9
and send in $5 cash and send it in with your learner. If it is a surprise please put it in an envelope addressed to the Conway ASB.
Second, our office staff has added a fun way to acknowledge each student's birthday. Students can visit the office for a special birthday pencil and cougar paw.
CREW SPIRIT
In honor of Walt Disney Birthday, this Tuesday, November 5th is a spirit day.
It was a magical morning in our Tiny Forrest.
Our Tiny Forrest was created last year during our Better World Day. Fifth grade re-wild a space on campus by creating a “Tiny Forest” in collaboration with the Beautiful Spaces Crew to include native chaparral plants and as well as encourage developing habitats for native animals and present a field guide journal to explain the native species.
Our students continue to meet this learning target - I will support the biodiversity of a chaparral ecosystem by re-wilding an area on campus with native species.
