Ms. Simmons' Secondary Scoop
weekly 7-12th grade updates for families & friends
Building Update
Students are doing a wonderful job following our temporary procedures for building entry/exit (using doors A2 and A3) and getting to/from band, lessons, and PE by walking outside and being let in through Door A8 by staff. We will continue following these procedures until we are able to open the high school hallway.
High school lockers are anticipated to be reinstalled on Mon, 9/12 barring any delays. We are really hoping the lockers and hallway are ready for use on Tue, 9/13. As soon as the lockers are ready for student use and the hallway is reopened, that update will be communicated ASAP.
All the rooms in the school have air conditioning with the exception of just a few. Parts have been ordered and they will be installed upon arrival. Staff are able to relocate if any room becomes too warm during the course of the day.
Homecoming Week - September 19-24
Homecoming plans continue to be in the works and excitement is growing as it draws near!
Updates:
- Coronation is at 6:30 PM on Mon, 9/19 and the burning of the "E" will follow outside. Afterwards, students will enter door A3 for the homecoming dance which will end at 10:30 PM.
- The homecoming dance is $5 per student. All Elkton students in grades 7-12 are welcome to attend.
- A guest list will be in the front office for students to sign up their out-of-district guest. Guests must be 20 years old or younger and signed up by Fri, 9/16.
Info Previously Communicated:
- Instead of hallway decorations this year, the student council decided to try a homecoming parade on Fri, 9/23. Time of the parade will be determined and communicated next week.
- The theme for the parade is board games.
- The plan is to have the marching bands bookend the parade.
- Elementary classes will walk together in the parade.
- Each high school class will plan and coordinate the details of their class float with their class advisors (note: students may not ride on any floats or drive the vehicle pulling them).
- Following the parade, we will host a short pep rally at the athletic complex.
- The timeframe for these activities will be provided as plans continue to solidify.
The student council also finalized this year's dress up days:
- Mon, 9/19 - Senior Citizen Day
- Tue, 9/20 - Movie Character Day
- Wed, 9/21 - Color Wars
- Elementary wear blue
- 7th wear red
- 8th wear purple
- 9th wear pink
- 10th wear grey
- 11th wear white
- 12th wear black
- Staff wear tie dye
- Thur, 9/22 - Throwback Thursday - wear an outfit from a decade of your choosing
- Fri, 9/23 - Blue & White Day
A couple items to note:
- JH/JV football & cross country will still have their events scheduled on Mon, 9/19; students should be finished in time to attend coronation at 6:30 PM.
- Due to the cross country meet & volleyball tournament on Sat, 9/24, the homecoming dance will be on Mon, 9/19 following coronation until 10:30 PM. We hope this will allow the greatest number of students to attend.
