A Note from Mrs. Pitts
Dear RES Family,
Conferences are November 9. This is a non-school day for students and we really do want to try and accommodate this designated time for conferences as much as possible. Teachers will reach out with a way to sign up for a time but we want you to be aware, this non-school day is a conference day!
At this conference, teachers will provide a Family Report for the STAR assessment in both reading and math. We use these results to screen for general achievement in reading and/or math, and to determine your child’s learning needs. It is important to understand that these test scores provide only one picture of how your child is doing in school. This is a new assessment for our students so we may see a change in their winter and spring results. At the conference, teachers will help families understand how this screener determines a potential need for intervention, continued instruction or enrichment.
Lexia Core5 is a program we are using for the first time this year as well. It is a teaching and adaptive program. We may use this for data in the future, allowing our students some time to adjust to the program.
PLEASE know that our Unified Arts teachers (art, music, PE/Health, STEAM, Outdoor Education, World Language and Library/Media) are all available and willing to sit with families that day if you are interested.
Caitlin Piper-cpiper@sau50.org (World Language)
Liz Barrett-ebarrett@sau50.org (Art)
Gene Guth-gguth@sau50.org (Music)
Denise Wheeler-dwheeler@sau50.org (Library/Media)
Kim Boulay-kboulay@sau50.org (STEAM)
Eileen Murphy-emurphy@sau50.org (Outdoor Education)
Holly Warden-hwarden@sau50.org (PE/Health)
Please reach out if you have any questions.
Have an amazing weekend!
Michelle Pitts, Principal

A Bridge from School to Home
This week Lori Arsenault, the first grade team and I had a conversation with the students in grade 1 that we wanted to share with all of you. Our goal is to support awareness of all individuals and learning styles, including students with disabilities. In an effort to encourage understanding and compassion for the diversity around each of us, we shared this beautiful story: My Brother Charlie written by Holly Robinson Peete (with the help of her daughter, as well). This story is written in the voice of a child who is telling about her brother who has Autism. The story celebrates all that Charlie can do and that makes him special.
We are sharing this link with you so you can experience this beautiful book and perhaps feel supported with language around understanding and supporting neurodiversity. We want to continue to build knowledge and understanding of our wonderful school community and all its important members. Some additional resources that may help you with supporting your child's understanding of Autism and other neurodiversities are listed below. If you have any questions or concerns at any time, please don't hesitate to reach out to Lori or myself.

World Language Health Class!
Students have been learning about MY PLATE and the five food groups in their combined World Language/Health classes. The Grocery store bingo might be helpful to keep younger students busy and a great way to share what they are learning. Try asking them to name the fruits or colors in Spanish! The My Plate Grocery list can be used with older students to help prepare the grocery list, as well as sorting the foods into the correct food groups. The stuffed pepper idea is a cute one for October.
Have fun!

Lunch with Students
We do allow one family member at a time to have lunch with their child(ren) but this is very optional and we don't want families to feel pressured to attend.
- Email resoffice@sau50.org if you would like to attend with the date/time (starting October 1). It is important to anticipate who will be in the building. We love these opportunities for students and their family members but we will always put safety first.
- We do have a focus during this time...eating for energy and brain power!
- Family members must meet the child in the cafeteria and leave from the cafeteria.
- Lunch times are:
Kindergarten-11:45-12:10
First Grade-12:15-12:40
Second Grade-12:15-12:40
Third Grade- 11:15-11:40
Fourth Grade-11:15-11:40
