Corbett Grade School
August 2023 - Back to School Edition
Dear Families,
Just a few short weeks until we begin a new school year together! We hope that everyone has had a summer filled with lots fun and adventure. During the break many of our staff members were also planning curriculum, designing new units, and supporting our incoming kindergarten students. Our Corbett Grade School team is united behind providing engaging curriculum that inspires curiosity and critical thinking in our students.

Arrival and Dismissal Times and Procedures
School Hours:
K/1 and 2/3 classroom hours are 7:55am - 3:35pm
4/5 and Grade 6 classroom hours are 7:55am - 3:40pm
We encourage all resident students to ride the bus when possible. For those students that do not ride the bus we have two areas for our students to arrive and depart by car:
Zone 1
- ALL K/1 classrooms
- Mrs. Arndt and Ms. Layton
- ALL 4/5 and grade 6 classrooms
- Mrs. Mack, Mrs. Lewis, and Mrs. Karki
Important Information
- Drop off begins at 7:40am (not earlier)
- Go to the youngest child's pick up location, if your child has siblings
- If that sibling is in grades 4, 5, or 6, please do not arrive until 3:40pm or later
- For security purposes, ALL families must use car pick up at the end of the day
- End time for K-3 classrooms: 3:35pm
- End time for 4/5 and grade 6 classrooms: 3:40pm
The times are staggered to help with traffic flow. Families with students in a fourth, fifth, sixth grade classroom should not join the pick up line before 3:40pm. If you arrive prior to 3:40pm in the pick up line, you will be asked to circle around until the 4/5 and grade 6 classes have been dismissed.
Things to help improve the flow of traffic:
- Practice getting your child in and out of their car seat
- Please remain in your car for drop off and pick up
- Pull over to the waiting area, if you need to buckle or unbuckle your child
- Arrive no more than five minutes prior to your student's dismissal time
Please keep in mind that the first week of school will be busy and will take longer than normal.

Building Changes
This summer, Steve Salisbury, our facilities director, has been busy over seeing the construction of two new classrooms and three new offices. Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Belesiotis will be moving into the new classrooms that were created by dividing up the Longhouse. The good news is that we maintained our meeting space and now have two other great spaces. We also added a wall to our staff workroom to create a space for our new counselor. We took down a wall to make a larger space for our occupational therapist and added a wall in our PE equipment room for a new speech room. Our plan is to have all the new spaces ready for the new school year!
Corbett PTA Information
Want to help support our school? Then join the Corbett PTA! This group helps support our school in so many ways. The cost is $10 if you pay by cash or check and $12 if you pay online. Please join us for the first meeting on Thursday, September 14 at 6:30pm in the grade school Longhouse.

Free and Reduced Lunch
The National School Lunch Program is a federally assisted meal program offered at Corbett School District. It provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches and breakfast to school-aged children.
Under Oregon's expanded income guidelines, a family of four that makes $90,000 qualifies for free/reduced lunch. All income guidelines can be found here. This is a confidential program. The only people who will know your child is receiving benefits are the nutrition staff. Children receiving free meals are not identified to other students or adults. The benefits go beyond school meals. Other cost-savings opportunities are available to students and families who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals, such as reduced participation fees for athletics and activities, plus low-cost high-speed Internet or mobile hot spots, and much more. Apply now! Families must apply each school year.
Every family must reapply each year by October 1.

Intermediate (Grade 4-6) Music Choices
Students in grades 4-6 have the opportunity to participate in band, strings, or general music. Many students completed the Intermediate Music Choice Form last spring. If you are new to the district or have not yet completed the form, please do so on or before August 21, 2023. The form has more information about each music class and a contact email for each teacher.
Playground Update
A big thank you to Oxbow Construction for donating the labor and materials for our new gaga pit pad! Now both playgrounds will have gaga ball pits for our students. Our new slides, rock climbing wall, and climbing trees are ordered and should be ready for installation in November.
