From the desk of Mrs. Humphries
I always enjoy this month. This month allows us to learn from each other, share joy and love with each other.
Every February, our children have a variety of learning that comes their way! February is, I Love To Read! Month. From my family to yours, I encourage everyone to turn off the TV, put away your tablet, quiet your phone and social media, and cuddle up with a good book.
Students and staff will be celebrating the joy of reading and the gift of literacy throughout the school. To help promote the excitement of reading, we have decided to begin a reading challenge for all of our students. We have created a 10 day scratch off “Reading Challenge Ticket”. Starting February 5th, 2024, parents can request a Reading Challenge Ticket from their child’s teacher. Any student who completes and returns to the office their 10 day Reading Challenge Ticket will receive a special prize.
We know that avid readers are better students. Research shows that reading at least 20 minutes nightly fosters empathy, increases background knowledge, expands vocabulary, and improves critical thinking.
Here are some tips to prepare students for a lifetime of learning and adventures through reading:
1. Read or listen to your child read every night
2. Make reading a family pleasure.
3. Help your child become an author.
4. Select media games that promote reading and academics.
5. Make library visits a regular routine.
6. Books on tape can help pass time on long road trips.
February is also family communication month. We look forward to sharing your child’s progress with you. Parent conferences can be scheduled in-person, by phone or by email. This is an important opportunity for parents to have discussions with our staff about their child’s progress. We appreciate your continued partnership, commitment, and involvement toward your child’s success in school.
