This year, we are looking closely at the study habits of our students. We are actively working to build study habits into our classes based on the subject being taught. After the PSAT's last week, our freshmen and sophomores were taught a short lesson to introduce them to the idea that study habits and memory can be improved with practice.

This short video, called 'Forgetting is the Friend of Learning' by Robert Bjork was shared with me recently while discussing these study skills. I am a firm believer that the more one understands how the brain works, the more one can build their capacity to do better in their academic pursuits.

Class Dues

During Teacher/Parent Conferences in November, there will be information sessions for families of juniors about AP PreCalculus, which will be offered next school year. All students who have completed Algebra 2 can experience success in the course and potentially earn college credit. Students will receive information during their Algebra 2 class this month, and more details about the sessions will be upcoming.

The following colleges will be visiting on Wednesday, 10/25 in the gym from 1:00-2:00.

Dear WHS Families,

On behalf of the WHS Parent Advisory Council, we would like to welcome all new and returning families to the WHS community. We are looking forward to another great year! Please join us for our first meeting – Wednesday, October 25th at 7:00pm in the Media Center.

We hope many of you will take advantage of the opportunity to meet other parents/guardians and to hear directly from Principal Imbusch, who will provide a back-to-school update. We will also be joined by the new Assistant Principal, Dr. Kristina Kelleher-Bianchi.

What we do and how we do it:
To welcome back WHS staff this year, our PAC sponsored a visit from Palagis Ice Cream Truck, bringing some fun and frosty treats. During the year, we will restock the staff room periodically with coffee pods and snacks. In May, we plan a Staff Appreciation luncheon during Teacher Appreciation Week.

WHS PAC does not participate in traditional fundraising efforts, so we rely on our WHS families for direct support. Direct donations are appreciated at any time!

Thanks for all the senior portraits submissions. If you haven't already submitted yours, do so ASAP.

Our next deadline for the senior pages is a baby picture. This is due October 20th.

The baby picture should be jpg, jpeg, or png files and should be titled lastname_firstname.

There are 3 ways to submit pictures (senior, baby, candids) to the Yearbook:

1. Submit to the Yearbook Classroom - Baby Pictures assignment.

2. Upload to the Yearbook website via https://images.jostens.com/0u3nAkgOHQWoXDlbRureFKw

3. Email Ms. Gould mgould@walpole.k12.ma.us.

WHS will be starting its first ever chapter of the National Art Honor Society! If you or someone who you know is passionate about the visual arts and wants to make it a larger part of their life both in and out of school, NAHS is the place for you! Come by Room 1146 at 2:05 on Tuesday, 10/24 for an informational meeting and to find out how you can apply!

There will be a meeting for all members on Thursday, 10/26 at 2:15 in Room 1336. Please email Mr. Braccini if you are unable to attend.

The Best Buddies Halloween Party will be on Saturday, October 21st from 6:00-8:00pm in the WHS gym. Please make sure your permission slip is turned in and the activity fee paid before the event. See Mrs. Donlan or Mr. Stampfl if you have any questions.

The Walpole Speech and Debate Team meet every Monday right after school until 3 PM in room 2124. If you are interested in public speaking, acting, or debating, please come to a meeting or contact Mrs. Murray at emurray@walpole.k12.ma.us

Parents and Guardians!

The WHS UNICEF Club will be hosting a Trunk or Treat Fundraiser in the parking lot of Walpole High School on Saturday, October 21st from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM (flyer attached). Come bring your little ones to this event that's sure to be a great time. There is a recommended donation of $5 per trick-or-treater.

Students: Interested in joining a club that works with the UNICEF organization to help provide impoverished children and families with necessities like proper nutrition and education? The Work Study Program is looking for business partners! If you know a business that would be interested in hosting WHS seniors as an intern, please fill out this form. All fields are welcome!

Students!- Please click here for information regarding PAID work -based learning experiences. We have partnered with the Massachusetts Work Based Learning Alliance to provide opportunities for our students to engage in virtual internships or industry project experiences. A few WHS students took advantage of an opportunity through IBM this summer, and we are looking to open this up to additional students.
