September Newsletter
Note from the Principal
It has been a busy start to the school year! We are excited about all that has been happening and, at the same time, looking forward to settling into routines. Middle School students have been focused on learning what the routines and expectations are in different settings while also strengthening existing relationships and building new ones. We had amazing weather for both days of rafting! Many of our students are currently involved in school based athletics or activities outside of school from horseback riding to working with racecars at Devils Bowl. Students also just experienced a club fair which helps them know what club options exist and think about what clubs they might want to work on creating. Involvement in activities beyond the classroom can support a student's overall success and we applaud our students for being active and engaged citizens. We also want to thank all of our students who continue to arrive on time. Timely arrival to school allows students time to get breakfast, get to their locker and settle in for the day. A calm start can set a positive tone for the day!
Thank you for your continued support!

Project Build with Chris Stanton
Project Build with Chris Stanton
The Middle School building Project works with four students, two from seventh grade and two from eighth grade. Students are selected by their teachers. Groups change every four to five weeks. This is the second year of the project. Last year students built bookcases, cubby holes for backpacks and picnic tables and a stand for the fish tank. This year students are building stands for computer charging stations, office tables and storage units for the new design area. The project is designed to be interdisciplinary whenever possible. Students end each day by writing a journal entry to record what they learned that day.
Middle School Rafting Trip
On Thursday, 9/14 and Friday, 9/15, FHUMHS students went on the annual rafting trip on the Sacandaga River. Both teams had wonderful weather! The purpose of the trip is twofold. First, we try to organize students in rafts by advisory so they can learn to 'row together' to achieve the goal of a successful rafting experience. Through this experience, students in an advisory begin to build relationships that will allow them to support each other and work together in the coming year. Secondly, for many of our students rafting is not something they have experienced or will experience again! We thank all who supported this endeavor!
Club Fair
On Thursday, 9/21/23, middle school students had a chance during advisory to visit a Club Fair. It was an opportunity to see what clubs are available to Middle School students. Some clubs are 7-12, some are 7/8 and some are 9-12.
Respect, Responsibility, Safety
Students have been making posters to clarify routines and expectations in different spaces with regard to safe, responsible and respectful behavior in different environments.
