August is planning time at Ada-Borup Elementary!
I hope that you have been able to soak up the last month of summer! The staff and I have been busy planning for the upcoming school year. Although the start to the 2020-2021 school year is not a typical one, we are doing our best to make the transition back to school is as easy as possible on families, students and staff.
Although there are a lot of unknowns right now, I can assure all of our parents and students that our main concern is for our students. We are concerned about their physical and mental health, their safety, and their education. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
There are many challenges ahead of us, and we will get through them together.

Mask and Face Coverings
Mask and Face Coverings
- Face coverings are required to be worn by school staff, students, and parents while inside school buildings or school vehicles.
- A medical exemption may be granted on an individual basis, but documentation from a medical professional must be provided to the district.
- A face cloth covering will be provided to all students and staff members.
- Students who cannot tolerate a face mask may use a face shield.
- Students and staff may use their own face covering.
- Should a student forget a mask, a disposable mask will be provided for that day.
- Classes will be encouraged to be outside when possible to allow students to remove their masks if social distancing can take place.
The 2020-2021 Return to School Plan
With the help of school leadership groups, local healthcare and public health groups, and administration, the district has devised their Return to School Plan. Please take the time to read through the plan (link directly below) and discuss how it will affect your child and your family. If you have any questions, please contact Aaron Cook, Superintendent, Bree Triplett, Elementary Principal, or Josh Carlson, High School Principal. We understand that this is a hard time for families and students. We want to work together to make sure our transition back to school runs smoothly.

Parent Home Illness Screener
Please use the above Home Illness Screener prior to sending your student to school each day. No child should come to school with any obvious signs of change in their normal condition. If they DO come to school and exhibit any of these symptoms, they will be sent home. In order to keep schools open, we need you to do your part- keeping children home when sick. We realize that this may be a hardship for families, but the alternative is distance learning for all if we can't minimize the risk of infection at school.

Ada-Borup Elementary Open House
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will be having our traditional open house night online. This year, we will send out links to each teacher's virtual open house. Each teacher will have four scheduled times that you are able to log on to. Each time slot will have 20 minutes designated for it. The first ten minutes will be a teacher-driven presentation about the different expectations of their classroom. The second ten minutes will be for questions and answers. Each teacher will have four of these sessions to allow for our families with multiple students in the elementary. The Ada-Borup High School will also be having an open house during this time. Their time will be more of a "pop-in" question and answer. We will send out the links to the different teacher Google Meets after our classroom assignments go out next week.

Dropping Off School Supplies and School Lunch Accounts
This year, we will not have our typical open house where you are able to drop off all of those important school supplies and monies for milk and lunch accounts. We know that it isn't practical to have all of those school supplies and monies come in on the first day of school with the students. To help alleviate some of these drop-off challenges, we will be opening up a "Drop-Off School Supply Spot".
Door 13, the hallway between the locker rooms and the high school gym, will be set up for drop-offs. There will be tables labeled with grades and teachers where you can drop off items. Drop-Off times will be limited to Wednesday September 2nd-Thursday, September 3rd from 7:00am-5:00pm. There will be a secured drop-off box for any payments as well. Please make sure that all checks are in an envelope that is clearly labeled with the child/children's name(s) and grade(s). Class Lists/Class Assignments
I want to thank you all for your patience. I know that finding out who your classroom teacher is going to be is a highlight for our students. We will be mailing our classroom assignments the week of August 24th-28th. If you have not received anything via mail by Friday, August 28th, feel free to call the office (218-784-5303). If you have access to Synergy and our Parent Vue, you will be able to see class assignments as early as Wednesday, August 26th. If you choose to log in prior to Wednesday, August 26th, the information MAY NOT BE up to date.
iPad/Chromebook Agreements
Before an Ada-Borup School District device is designated or sent with a student, a signed iPad/Chromebook Agreement and device payment must be received. Please see the attached link below for more information.
Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up
All students who are dropped off and picked up during the 2020-2021 school year will need to be dropped off at Door 13 or Door 14. Please see the parking lot map below for more information. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, parents are not allowed in the building during the school day. There will be paraprofessionals stationed at the doors to help students enter the building. During pick-up, parents will wait in either the pick-up lane or in parking spaces until the children are escorted out by school staff.
