Chat Editor

Chat Editor is a program that can help to:

• create page sets on a computer and then transfer them to a TouchChat, Chat Fusion or NOVA Chat device
  
• create modeling pathways (picture below) to show how to get to a certain target word or phrase
• serve as a great modeling tool for virtual students and computer-based activities!

This is a free and approved software that you can request as a download from IT to your computer.

For our TouchChat users, the use of this companion software can help with modeling via live modeling on the computer while the student has their device and/or by creating pathways that include phrases that the student could say on their device.

This allows for more spontaneous learning opportunities and more independence in learning language using their AAC device.

Here are a few ways you can use Chat Editor in your classroom with students who use TouchChat or NovaChat:

• create sequences using the student's device layout for phrases that a student could say in your classroom (e.g. I need to go to the bathroom. What time is it? When is speech? I am finished.) then post these visuals in the places that the student may look to say these things (e.g. What time is it?=clock, When is speech?=by the schedule)
• create sequences to go with books so the students can use their device to read the book and participate in activities
• create sequences and add them to your morning meetings or lessons

Make sure to always model and give the students the opportunity to respond or initiate communication before helping or prompting them to respond.
