This Back to School edition of the OMS Community Newsletter has important information for the start of the 2021-2022 school year. Click on the "Back to School Greetings" video below this message for a welcome from Mr. Colantonio.
A link to our list of school supplies is below. This year, all students will need to get a combination lock along with their other school supplies. More information about lockers is listed below.
If you need assistance with any school supplies at all, please call the main office. We have extra supplies and our OMS PTSO is always willing to help with supplies.
Team assignments and schedules will be available the week of August 23rd. All students will receive a letter via email with their team assignment and some other important information for the start of school. Students and families will see full schedules in PowerSchool as well.
We will be having two optional, in-person orientation visit days for students in late August. Grade 6 will be Thursday, August 26th; Grades 7 & 8 will be Friday, August 27th. These in-person visits are for students only and should only last about fifteen to twenty minutes. Parents/guardians can drop their students off or park and wait for their students to finish.
These visits are totally optional for students. Students unable to attend will have plenty of time on the first couple of school days to practice their lockers.
We will be sending out a recorded orientation presentation for families next week. This presentation will cover all of the typical opening of school topics, including the COVID protocols in place for this school year.
Thanks to the Knights of Summer Camp video production students who made a couple of videos included in this newsletter: one on how to open a locker and one that's a tour of OMS!
Get excited! The first day of school for students is Thursday, September 2nd.
Lockers, Bookbags, and Cell Phones Oh My!
Students will be assigned their own lockers this year. We have removed the built-in locks from our lockers to allow all students to bring in their own combination locks. Students can practice their own locks over the summer and keep their same combination throughout their middle school time if they wish. All student lockers must have a combination lock; no keys allowed. Once you have your combination, you can complete the Google Form below to provide us with your combination.
While we are excited to be able to allow student lockers again, we are still going to limit the use of lockers to just a few times a day: arrival, lunch, and dismissal. For this reason we are once again allowing students to carry their bookbags and backpacks with them during the school day.
We know that many of our students come to school with their cell phones, but students are not allowed to have their cell phones on them during the school day at OMS. Students will store their cell phones in their lockers during the school day and disconnect from these devices until dismissal. Family members who need to reach their children during school hours should contact the main office at the number listed at the bottom of this newsletter.
Student Lockers
Each students will be assigned a locker and put their own combination lock on it.
Bookbags & Backpacks
Because they will only be using their lockers a few times each day, students can use bookbags and backpacks during the school day.
Cell phones
During their morning locker visit, students put their cell phones away for the day. They get them again at their end of the day locker visit.
Band & Chorus are Back...and Drama is here!
Students will once again be singing in Chorus and playing instruments in Band.
We have also added a Drama class as one of our enrichment offerings. These enrichment classes are offered in all grades.
If you are interested in taking one of these amazing enrichment class offerings and are not already signed up, please email Mrs. Burak h_burak@stoughtonschools.org
6th graders, here is Mrs. Bauman talking about Chorus class for you!
