We are so glad to be back in school and hope everyone had a restful holiday break! On January 6th we sent home a Remote Learning Day Choice Board with every student. Please hold on to that page in case we have a snow day in January or February. As always, we will post on our social media pages as well as the district social media if we ever close due to weather. Local news stations will also report on school closures.

We have begun winter MAP testing! Please make sure your child is at school everyday that they are healthy. We want to see how much they have learned and grown from fall to winter testing dates. It is always best for students to take their test with their teacher and peers when possible. Also, make sure they get to bed early and arrive at school on time for a free breakfast!

Jan. 11-15 2nd-5th graders will MAP test in reading and math.

Jan. 19-21 K & 1st graders will MAP test in reading and math.

It’s Not Too Late to Make New Year’s Resolutions

It is that time of year again! We are starting a new year and a lot of times, we make resolutions trying to better ourselves. A lot of adults focus on things such as health, exercise or just trying to make better life choices. Children can make New Year’s Resolutions too. It’s important that children learn how to make goals and try to reach them. This not only helps them make small improvements, but it gives them something to focus on while teaching them responsibility. I recently read an article titled “35 New Year’s Resolution Ideas for Kids” at https://gatheredagain.com. I wanted to share a handful of ideas that children can use as New Year’s Resolutions. They made many good suggestions such as:

1. I will focus in class on the teacher versus my friends in class.

2. I will do my homework as soon as I get home from school.

3. When I get mad, I will walk away from the situation and calm down.

4. I will study when I get home from school.

5. I will be nice to everyone and be everyone’s friend.

6. I will be positive and resist peer pressure.

7. I will be more organized.

8. I will watch less TV.

9. I will keep my grades up at school.

10. I will go to bed at an earlier time.

It’s never too late to start good habits. I hope that your child can pick a few of these suggestions to try to focus on for this wonderful new year.

Please remember to fill out the COVID form at go.sdale.org/covid if your child has been exposed to someone who tests positive for COVID or if they are positive for COVID. Also, please let Nurse Alicia or the office know.

If your child is an English Language Learner and on a blended schedule they will be required to be face to face everyday for ELPA21 testing. Please mark your calendars and plan accordingly for these dates.

• February 4th & 5th - ELPA21 Testing 3-5

• February 8th & 9th - ELPA21 Testing 1-2

• February 10th & 11th - ELPA21 Testing Kindergarten

• January 11th - Report Cards will be sent home
• January 18th - No School in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
