Volunteering
Are you interested in volunteering in your child’s school during the 2023-24 school year? Volunteer background checks for the upcoming school year are now open!
Every volunteer in Sherwood School District must have a criminal background check completed each school year (July 1-June 30). It can take 7-10 business days to complete the process, so if you are planning to volunteer in the upcoming year, completing this process during the summer months is a great way to make sure you are cleared before the first day of school!
You only need to submit your information one time per school year. If you completed the process at any time during the 2022-23 school year, even as recently as June 2023, you will need to complete a new background check for the upcoming year. Additionally, COVID vaccinations are no longer required for K-12 school volunteers as per recent guidance updates from the Oregon Health Department and the Oregon Department of Education.
Once your background check has cleared, your name will be added to the approved volunteer list for all SSD schools. Please note, no approval notice goes out to cleared volunteers, so if you have questions about your submission or want to confirm your background check has been processed and approved, please contact the office at 503-825-5400.
To complete the volunteer approval process for 2023-24, please complete the form below:

The time our parents and community members devote to our schools is what helps make our district great -- thank you for your interest in volunteering!

Attendance
Expectations
Regular attendance is expected of all students. For detailed expectations, please see the Sherwood Student Body Handbook, page 7, for complete information.
Absence Notification
Parents who keep their children at home on a school day should call the office between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. If we do not hear from a parent by 9:00 am, the absence reporting system will contact the parent. Please call our 24 hour student absence line at 503-825-5410. With parents’ cooperation, we can assure each child’s security.
When reporting a student absence on the attendance line, please include the following information: Student name, parent/guardian name, student’s teacher, date of absence, reason for absence and a phone number where the parent/guardian can be reached.
Tardies
The school day starts at 7:55 am. Late arrivals will need to check into the office and receive a tardy slip before heading to class. When students enter the classroom late, it causes a disruption to the learning environment for everyone. It is essential that all children arrive at school on time and ready to learn. Our team will monitor and address attendance throughout the year and communicate with families.
Student Medications
If your child needs to take medication during school hours, we would like to remind you of some important safety policies:
- Parents must bring medication (Prescription or OTC) to and from school. Students are not allowed to transport medication of any kind.
- Medication must be in the original container.
- Your child’s name must be affixed to the original container.
- Prescriptions must have appropriate pharmacy labeling.
- Medications must not be expired.
- Appropriate medication authorization forms (see below) MUST be filled out and submitted to the school office before any medication can be administered.
Note: It is the parent's responsibility to ensure that an adequate amount of medication is on hand and to inform the school in writing of any changes in medication instructions. In the event a student refuses medication; the parent will be notified immediately. No attempt will be made to administer medication to a student who refuses district-administered medication. School health forms, including medication authorization forms, can be found on our district website: www.sherwood.k12.or.us under “Departments”, “Health Services” and “Forms.”
Please note that elementary students are not allowed to self-medicate at any time, with the exception of inhalers for 3rd-5th grade students, with proper forms and permissions.
To simplify the process and avoid possible long lines, please bring in medication on August 28th during the Meet & Greet (4:00-6:00), or anytime the office is open after 8/17 and before the first day of school. Forms will be available in the office for your convenience. Office hours are 7:45-3:30.
