SLI Families:

Spread the word about donating a canned or boxed food item for the Thanksgiving Meal Food Drive. It has been extended to November 15. Last year we collected 760 food items! I remember my heart overflowing with gratitude and thankfulness as that was over 200 more items from the year before. If you are able to donate a food item, it would be appreciated.

A big thank you for our veterans for joining us at our celebration in honor of Veterans Day this past Thursday! Thank you for your service.

In 2011, the Silver Lake Music Department developed a scholarship fund to give deserving students financial assistance to attend music camps/lessons. During the first 11 years, more than 144 students have received scholarships totaling $19,300! AMAZING!

The Silver Lake Music Department again needs your help to raise money for our summer music camp/lesson scholarship fund during our 12th annual poinsettia sale. This year we would like to be able to give at least another 10 scholarships of $200 each to deserving band, choir, and orchestra students. Monetary donations to the scholarship fund are welcome as well. The more people you tell about our wonderful scholarship program (like relatives, co-workers, and friends), the more scholarships we will be able to give! (The power of ONE—if every music family in our program bought ONE poinsettia or donated ONE $5 amount, we would easily surpass our fundraising goal.)

The poinsettias you purchase will decorate our gym for our 7/8 grade holiday concert on Tuesday, December 19. The plants can be picked up after that concert or during the school day on Wednesday, December 20.

The theme for this Web Social was Thanksgiving. Our 5th grade students had fun on a scavenger hunt and participating in some art projects for Thanksgiving.

Students in Mrs. Stuckey's and Mrs. Fleischfresser's homerooms were celebrating their hard work for finishing their first reading and writing unit. They were able to read with a cozy blanket and drink hot cocoa as they read and gave feedback to their fellow "writers" in the room.

Best Buddies Club joined together for a Spook-tacular meeting! Costumes were worn. Memories of past Halloweens were shared. Pumpkins were created.

Students celebrate their published final narratives from writing class with fellow 5th grade writers. They printed their stories and created book covers to complete their publishing.

Students worked during SOAR on a exponent puzzle. They worked on extending their learning and connecting the mini lessons on exponent rules in order to solve this puzzle in groups.

Students solved a fraction of a whole number strategically and efficiently

Makayla M. gives the Chain of Awesomeness to Mrs. Runt who in turn gives the Chain of Awesomeness to Autumn T. This young lady has so many great qualities! She has a great sense of humor, makes all her peers feel accepted and works very hard on her studies!

Autumn T. gives the Chain of Awesomeness to Mrs. Bourdo who in turn gives the Chain of Awesomeness to Claire W. Claire always has a smile and a positive attitude. Not only is Claire a very hard worker who always puts forth her best effort, she is also kind and respectful to students and adults. She is such a great kid and I have enjoyed being her teacher and her coach.

Gabriel L. gives the Chain of Awesomeness to Frau Moser who in turn gives the Chain of Awesomeness to Jayden M. Jayden comes to class every day with a smile on her face, ready to learn! She expresses her excitement for learning German through her positive attitude and outstanding work.

Parents of students 16 and younger seeking a work permit, will now log on to the Department of Workforce Developments page and use their permit application tool. Here is the link: Work Permit.

This new system will allow you to apply for a permit 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from any computer, tablet or smartphone. You will make your payment through the system as well. The department will mail a paper copy of the permit directly to your child's employer.
