Plympton Family Update
September 15, 2023
From the Interim Principal
Hello Plympton Families,
We made significant progress in our first full week of school, establishing strong routines and clear expectations. Academic instruction is now in full swing, and our classrooms are actively integrating social-emotional learning into the daily curriculum.
This week, we successfully conducted our first fire drill of the year, and I'm pleased to report that both students and staff demonstrated exceptional safety awareness by exiting the building swiftly and efficiently. We are committed to continuously enhancing our safety drill protocols to ensure our preparedness for any emergency situation. The well-being and security of our students remain our utmost priority here at Plympton. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our dedicated custodial staff and School Resource Officer Henderson for their invaluable support throughout the planning process.
We've also distributed Emergency Forms to our students this week. We kindly request that you take a moment to complete and update these forms and then return them to school with your student. Your cooperation is essential in maintaining the safety and security of our school community.
The PTO is a crucial part of the Plympton community. Right now the PTO is looking for a volunteer to coordinate the Election Day Bake Sale. The proceeds from this event go towards a scholarship for a graduating senior who was a Plympton Penguin. Please reach out to the PTO if this is something you can help coordinate.
We are looking forward to our Ice Cream Social next Tuesday, September 19th, hosted by the PTO. We hope to see many of our penguins there!
Go Penguins!
Sincerely,
Adrienne Norris

Introduction to the Library
Hello Plympton Families,
I am overjoyed to be your child’s library teacher. For those who don’t know me, my name is Ms. Liza Halley. I look forward to helping your student to become a critical thinker, engaged reader, skilled researcher, and ethical user and consumer of information. Your child will be visiting the library once a week. Students begin to check out four books each week but will eventually be able to check out up to ten books each week. Please make sure they keep their books in their backpack or another safe place at home; far away from liquids, pets, and small children. Please help them remember to bring their borrowed book back on their library day.
Here is the Library Schedule:
Mondays: O’Brien, Smith, Carlson
Tuesdays: Bird, Nadeau, Libertini
Wednesdays: Egirous, Cercone, Elliott, Carlin
Thursdays: Blanchard, Abcunas
Fridays: Plummer, Logue, Ferguson, Hache
Throughout the year I run student book clubs and comic clubs, offer students a chance to volunteer in the library, and offer special programs including Poem in Your Pocket Day, Read Into the New Year, Vocabulary Day and so much more. The Plympton library is a very special place. It is a learning hub that is always bustling with students and teachers. I need your help to keep it running smoothly! Adult volunteers help with circulation (checking students in and out) and with returning books to shelves each week. Caregivers can also become a book buddy, reading 1:1 with students who can benefit from reading with an adult for 20 minutes each week. If you are willing to give your time, you can come in at a regular time each week or when your schedule allows it would be deeply appreciated. All volunteers need to fill out a CORI form and complete a fingerprint background check. If you are able to support your school library as a volunteer please reach out to me via email at elizabethhalley@walthampublicschools.org.
Sincerely,
Liza Halley
