Cell Phone Usage
This is a friendly reminder, that all students must leave their devices in their lockers during the school day. Per our OGS Parent-Student Handbook: Cell phones may be used before or after school. During school hours cell phones must remain off and in the students’ backpack. Students are not permitted to use their cell phones (and smartwatches) to call home if ill or requesting medication or a forgotten item from home. Students who are not feeling well, need to go to the nurse for an assessment, and parents will be called if needed.
New Family Orientation (Reminder)
On Wednesday, February 23, 2022 from 6:00-7:00 PM in our Elementary Library we will have a panel of students and PTO representatives available to answer any questions and to provide information about our school and community. If you would like to attend this parent only meeting, please RSVP through this link.
5Essentials (Reminder)
Our current Parent Response Rate is 26%. Research derived from the Five Essentials for School Success has proven that schools strong on at least three of the 5Essentials are 10 times more likely to improve student outcomes. The survey participation rates impact our standing in the Illinois accountability system. Parents may use THIS 5Essentials LINK to take the survey.

TAG Identification Webinar
This Thursday, February 24 at 7:00pm, will be an informational webinar on the TAG Identification process for 3rd and 5th grade students. If you would like to attend the webinar, please register here. You will be sent a link to the webinar prior to the meeting.
Rotation Offerings
We are reaching out to Oak Grove families to gain feedback in regards to how we can best support our students in the areas of fine arts and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). We are in the process of reviewing our current programming and rotations and want to ensure that we are meeting the interests of our students and families. Please complete this survey by Friday, March 4th. We appreciate your feedback.
CogAT Testing
Students in grades 3 and 5 will be taking the CogAT assessment on February 28, March 1 and March 2. CogAT stands for Cognitive Abilities Test. This is a three-part test that assesses a student's Quantitative, Verbal and Nonverbal aptitude and results of this assessment are used in TAG placement decisions. Your child’s classroom teacher will share their schedule with you. We will schedule make-up sessions for those students who are absent. Student results will be sent home by the end of March.
IAR Spring Testing Window
The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR), a state mandated assessment, will take place this year from March 14-18, with makeup testing March 21-23. Students in grades 3 through 8 will be assessed in both mathematics and language arts. Students will need working headphones for the audio portion of the English - language arts assessments.
IAR preparation is important. The computer interface is more complex than other digital tests students have done during iReady, or CogAT testing. For practice with this more complex interface, students can take the IAR practice tests for both ELA and Math at https://ilassessments.com/practice-tests/. The purpose of the practice tests are not what score a student obtains, but more for gaining a better understanding of the more complex IAR testing interface as well as the test taking tools that are offered on the tests. Students are encouraged to take the tests at and around their grade level.
