A Message From Heather Patterson, GRHS Principal
Happy Sunday GRHS Longhorns,
We had another eventful week at the Ranch and this coming Friday will lead us right into a week long Thanksgiving break! I hope that you take this time to refill your cup with family and friends and step away from the daily grind of school work. I am asking my school staffamily to do the same, as we too need that time to refill our cups so that we can keep showing up as our best self for our Longhorns! This will be the last GRHS news until the Sunday before we return on November 28th.
PTO is continuing their THANKFUL tradition to gift each GRHS Staff-amily member with a pie to enjoy with their family over the break and they need your help since we have 210 staff members in our family! No need to be homemade, we are just so thankful for your support! We have about 80 pies, but need to reach our goal of 210 so that EVERY STAFF MEMBER CAN GO HOME WITH A PIE, so we still need your help. Pies can start being delivered Monday-Thursday in the front office! We appreciate your generosity
Please use the signup link to confirm your donation. GRHS PTO: Thanksgiving Pies (signupgenius.com)
Speaking of COUNTING OUR RANCH BLESSINGS. As we head into this week of Thanksgiving, I am including a short "THANK-A-STAFF MEMBER" survey for you to fill out and allow me to share that gratitude with a GRHS Staff member that you feel is making a positive difference on our campus or for your Longhorn! I know this little gesture is priceless to our educator hearts! (Please scan the QR code below)
Behavior Check!
We have been more than generous with working around some troublesome behaviors that developed throughout this past year and a half with school not looking or feeling the same, but we have been in school long enough now to RELEARN the expectations again. The amount of time spent by our staff on these type of things during a hard year already, is stopping. We are raising the bar to back where I set it in the fall of 2019 when I was first asked to take this job, and I expect you to follow suit.
- No ID = NO PHONE USE (even at lunch) If you refuse to put them up, it's a write up.
- Phones must be put away at all times in the classrooms, unless there is an instruction purpose GIVEN by the teacher and the sign is on GREEN. If you refuse to follow this, it will be a write up.
- Ignoring teachers/staff when they are asking you to put on ID or to put your phone up will be a write up. (That's just disrespect)
- In the hallways without an ID AND a pass during class time, will be a write up. Parents- if you wonder why grades are slipping...it's their personal devices and lack of urgency to participate in class.
- Instigating, participating, or videoing an altercation (regardless of how small) will be a write up. If you are part of a fight, you will be placed at ALC.
Let me say...that you are BETTER than this, but the lack of respect (post COVID) that many are showing is not fair to the MAJORITY of our Longhorns and Staff that are here for the right reasons and doing what they are asked to do. Do better...because you ARE better!
Color Guard Tryouts are this week! (see the flyers)
Congrats to Coach Gaines and her Lady Basketball Longhorns on her first program sweep WIN at the Ranch! Also BIG shoutout for the Moonlight Madness Event that she and Coach Henry hosted....I see GR-eat things coming for GR Basketball!
National Signing day was a hit with 7 current GRHS Athletes signing to play athletics at the next level next year! Congrats to you all!
No ID ON = No Phone/Airpods/Headphones!
ID's are mandatory! No more temporaries will be issued. If you need a NEW ID/Lanyard- you can purchase them for $5 in the library from 8:00-8:15 daily! Lanyards/ID's should be on the second you step through the doors each day. Please make sure you are following this rule as well as being in dress code and to ensure that you are not written up for non compliance. This will affect your exemptions.
The front office is open Monday- Friday 8:00-4:00pm to assist you. You can also directly email us or call 832-223-4200 during the same hours. We are happy to help!
