Weekly Update November 5, 2021
Head Cheetah's Message
Dear Families,
We began our first week of November with a cozy start! Students enjoyed coming to school Monday in their pajamas! On Tuesday, staff strengthened their skills during a day of professional learning. This month during announcements we are discussing gratitude and how students can use their imagination. Enjoy your weekend. The time change will bring an extra hour of rest for all of us!
Best,
Joey and Andrea

Got A Good Book?
Hi Cheetah families!
It has been a busy month in the Memorial School library! Students have been practicing their library skills each week and are becoming more independent library users. We have a book fair coming up at the end of November, more information to follow.
See below for grade level classroom expectations.
● PreK students are enjoying a variety of read-alouds and songs with the themes of friendship and gratitude. We have been having fun with a new round of rhymes, including a student favorite, “popcorn”.
● Kindergarten is working on discussing the relationship between illustrations and text. We have read “Go Away Big Green Monster” and “The Story of Fish and Snail” to aid in this discussion.
● First grade is finishing their introduction to Digital Citizenship. We have talked about what the internet is and what kinds of things we can do with the internet. The message of these lessons has been that using the internet is a big responsibility and we need adult supervision when using it. Next we will begin some activities with the theme of gratitude and connection centered around Peter Reynold’s book, Our Table.
● Second grade is in the middle of their unit on digital citizenship. They are learning about the types of information that are safe to put online versus what is unsafe. We have learned that we should never share our username/passwords, birthday, school, or address online. Most classes are working their way through Google’s game, Interland, and are really enjoying it. All classes will also be finishing up the 2022 Nutmeg Nominee, Mega Bat, this month.
● Third grade is finishing their unit on digital citizenship. They have reviewed the types of information that is safe to put online versus what is unsafe. They have discussed how to create a safe and strong username. We are now beginning our coding unit, using a new program called Code Monkey. All classes will also be finishing up the 2022 Nutmeg Nominee, Mega Bat, this month.
