I am missing my artists SO much! I hope you are finding time to create at home. While you are home you have the perfect opportunity to find your creative nitch by following the TAB model of creating art. TAB stands for Teaching for Artistic Behavior. This model of teaching follows three main ideas:
- What do artists do?
- The student is the artist.
- The art room is the student’s studio. (which is now your home!)
Throughout the year we have had discussions about how artists think, work and come up with ideas. In our classroom at school we learn how to use different mediums of art (pencils color pencils, paint, printmaking, sculpture, ect...). You now have the unique opportunity to have different studios set up for yourself at home by choosing supplies to create your ideas (drawing, collage, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and fibers). Here are some ideas on how you can create an art studio setup at home:
Drawing Studio: go on a scavenger hunt and find any drawing or writing material (pens, markers, sharpies, sidewalk chalk..)
Collage: find different types of papers in your house that can be cut and glued together (construction paper, computer paper, magazines, junk mail, print pictures from your computer…)
Painting: Look for paints in your house. If you don’t have paint, try using regular markers. You can color the markers on a Ziploc bag and add water with a brush or Q-tip if you don't have a brush. You can also draw some lines with a marker and experiment with brushing on some water.
Sculpture: Your recycling is great place to find sculpture material! Cereal boxes, tissue boxes, egg cartons, toilet paper rolls, tape, glue, staplers, aluminum foil, and materials from nature are all great things to create with!
Printmaking: Look around your house for anything that has texture. (Leaves, bricks, wood) Create rubbings of these using crayons or colored pencils.
You are full of ideas! If you get stuck trying to come up with an idea, try the tab to the right that shows you how to generate and idea. The video below will show you how to find items for your studio space. Once you have your “studio” set up, start making ART! If you are having trouble getting started, I am also going to share each week some things to focus on but they are certainly not required. And please do not feel like you need to set up ALL of these studios in your home! Only what you feel comfortable with doing or what you have available. Send me Pictures through Jupiter! I can't wait to see what you create!
If you venture over to the right side bar will find different types of links for art making.
