Weekly Update ~ April 19, 2021
8th Grade Graduation
This past Friday, school administration shared a "Save the Date" for 8th grade graduation to take place on June 2, with a June 3 rain date. Unlike our recent annual ceremonies, the event this year will take place at OGS on our outdoor fields. While Libertyville High School District administration allowed us access to their outdoor field, we were not able to hold the event on our preferred dates, would need to share the date with another middle school, and would not have the same level of capacity for parents to attend as we would at OGS.
OGS administration, teachers and staff have begun planning for the graduation ceremony and are taking great steps to ensuring this evening is special for all! We will have an option for students and family members to view the event virtually, if it is their preference to not attend in person.
We will continue to send updates on our planning through the OG News. Please keep an eye out for further information to come.
Registration for the 2021-22 School Year
Registration for the 2021-22 school year will begin next week! Please keep an eye out for your log-in information to be sent to you the morning of April 26 via email.
OGS administration will be conducting a webinar in late May for all families to give a preview of daily operations and programming for the next school year.

Curriculum Corner
Hello Oak Grove Community,
With spring in full effect and the end of the school year insight, we all need to rally our strength to finish the school year strong. Here are four tips to try and help navigate the end of the school year from Scholastic Parents Toolkit.
Supply Check-In: At this time of year, pencils may be shorter, markers may be dull and crayons are missing. Now is a good time to check in with your student to see what supplies need to be updated or refreshed to get that “new school supply” feeling which may help them feel excited to keep learning.
Model a Positive Outlook: Your kids are listening to you. If you keep saying, “I wish it was summer already,” or “Why isn’t it summer yet?” then your student will mimic that language. Try and use phrases like, “Don’t slow down now, you’re on a roll,” or “Let’s sprint to the end!” to help them have a strong finish.
Keep the Routine: It’s important to help your students maintain perseverance as a learner even in the face of being tired after a long and unique school year. Helping your student push through will help reinforce those characteristics of having strong grit.
Establishing Goals: Setting one or two small realistic goals will help them push through the end of the school year. Having the ability to focus on “one step at a time” will help make the time pass faster while finishing on a positive note.
Oak Grove Honor Society
This year, members have had to get creative in the way we practice community service. From creating dog blankets, writing letters to veterans, building tiny houses, picking up trash and more, the OGS Honor Society has shown their devotion to our community. All of the members are expected to live up to the high standard of expectations, including leadership in and out of school, service to our community, high academic achievement, and finally character. As graduation approaches, pictures will be posted every week until the end of the school year, highlighting all the wonderful things members have completed. Congratulations to all of our current 8th grade members. Let's finish the year on a high note!
