Parent Teacher Conferences
Central Heights Middle/High School
Why Attend?
We have all heard the African Proverb "it takes a village to raise a child," but the problem is that while we are in the most connected era we have ever lived in, we often don't communicate well on how we can all help each other raise the child. Our "village" has never been more necessary than it is today. Our society and culture has become fast-paced, instant gratification and pressure packed. Today's students have more stress and opportunities than ever before. Let us get our "village" together to help your child navigate the uncertainties of maturation, education, and the sometimes scary "what should I do next question?"
When?
- October 18th and 22nd
- 4-8 PM
Changes to Conferences
We are transitioning to a different style of conference this fall. We are moving to a "student led" conference. Students are required to attend and talk to their parents, reflect on academic performance, and make plans for future success. Student, parent, and Seminar teacher will have a scheduled meeting. There will be opportunity for students and parents to meet with other teachers as well. A schedule for time frames of conferences has been sent out soon.
We will move to an approach eventually that includes student samples of success from each class, but we will not be fully where we want to be during this fall's conferences. Please plan to attend and also provide comments on how we can make conferences more beneficial for all stakeholders involved. Most importantly, let's work together to ensure the success of your son or daughter moving forward!
What Will You, The Parent, Get Out of Conferences?
We want to make this an experience that is worth while. We recognize you, as the parent, can access grades at any time. We realize you have instant access to teachers via email and phone opportunities. However, consider this: Middle and High School is a time when there is a huge drop off in parent presence at conferences, yet this is a time when grades count for college, career, and beyond. This is a time when students are preparing for their success after graduation. School work gets more challenging, students become more involved, and the pressure of being successful is mounting. We hope you gain several benefits from meeting with your student and our teachers as students lead you through a discussion of:
- Past class performance, reflection, and a plan for future academic success
- Opportunities moving forward (extra curricular, academic, and career prep)
- Praises and concerns from student, teacher, or parent
- Answers to any questions you may have
Bringing the Village Together
Central Heights is eager to partner with you and your student to ensure his or her success. We are excited about educating, enabling, and empowering all students to define their level of success and doing our part to help them achieve their goals. We are committed to active communication with our parents and connecting with our community partners to provide the best village to help those we serve. We cannot do it alone. You cannot do it alone. As a community, a Viking Proud community, let's work together to provide a safe, challenging, and exciting experience to help propel our students into a successful future. Let's take the first step by students, parents, and teachers meeting together at Parent/Teacher Conferences on October 18th and 22nd from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. We hope to see you at our first student-led Parent/Teacher Conferences
