Lubbock-Cooper High School
Weekly Newsletter: March 7-11, 2022
*Important Update to Student Parking and Pick-up/Drop-off Beginning March 21st*

LCHS Families:
Due to the expansion of Woodrow Road, the Lubbock-Cooper High School south parking lot (the lot in front of the main entrance) will become unavailable upon return from Spring Break (March 21, 2022). This is a county project that is necessary to relocate utilities in preparation for road work. The project will result in a refurbished roadway in front of LCHS, including a four-way stop. This will be a significant improvement to our current traffic situation, and will greatly improve the efficiency of drop-off and pick-up in the future.
In the meantime, the loss of the south parking lot will require some shifting in parking and drop-off/pick-up patterns.
DROP-OFF/PICK-UP
Parents will no longer be able to drop off or pick up students on the south side of LCHS for the remainder of the school year.
Parents are encouraged to use the drop-off and pick-up area near the softball field (just west of the football stadium). This area is accessible from Avenue P.
A second drop-off and pick-up area will be located on the north side of the building. This area is accessible from Avenue P or Loop 493. Please note: this area will also serve as the LCHS bus unloading/loading area, which may cause traffic congestion.
The above are simply options for families displaced by the closure of the south parking lot and drop-off/pick-up. If you are accustomed to dropping off or picking up your child elsewhere and are unaffected by these changes, please feel free to continue your regular routine.
PARKING
All reserved spaces in the south parking lot will be unusable.
Seniors currently assigned to the south parking lot will be reassigned spaces in the band practice lot (between LCHS and the football stadium).
After all senior spaces have been reassigned, a few remaining spaces will be available in the band practice lot. These will be available to juniors and sophomores on a first-come, first-serve each day.
Juniors and sophomores will not be reassigned specific spaces, but will be able to park anywhere in the north tennis lot (if unable to locate an available space in the band practice lot).
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
*Administration will have a meeting with all displaced students on the morning of Tuesday, March 8th to explain the changes.

Nominate a Student Volunteer for a SBOE Student Hero Award
The State Board of Education (SBOE) is now accepting nominations for the 2022 Student Heroes Award.
The Student Heroes Award program recognizes Texas public school students in prekindergarten through high school who voluntarily work to assist or benefit their fellow Texas students.
Student volunteers possess enormous passion and talents and have displayed them in various ways throughout the years. Actions of past recipients include organizing a livestock show for kids with special needs, creating and hosting Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) literacy camps and webinars, showcasing artwork to raise funds for sensory classroom equipment, publishing a book to encourage perseverance and discipline, and creating “Kindness Projects” that impacted more than 50,000 people.
Up to 15 students – one per State Board of Education district – may receive the award each year. Anyone may nominate a Texas public-school student for the award.
Award requirements include the following:
· The service, assistance or good deed must be voluntary and not part of any curriculum, graduation requirement, class, or community project.
· The service, assistance or good deed must benefit other students in Texas, either individually or collectively.
· The benefit may be to students of one campus, a district, or a community.
Nominations will be accepted through March 31, 2022, at 5 p.m. (CDT).
Recipients of the Student Heroes awards will be announced in June. A plaque and a medal will be awarded to each Student Hero by his or her State Board of Education member.
Nomination forms and program guidelines are available at https://tea.texas.gov/about-tea/news- and-multimedia/awards/student-heroes-award.
The online nomination form can be accessed directly at https://form.jotform.com/TXEd/student-hero- nomination-form.
