Thank you for your help making arrival and dismissal safe! At the midpoint of the year, it is good to review these important protocols.
There are two places where we can improve our safety and efficiency. First, in the morning car drop-off line, please pull as far forward as possible (all the way to the gazebo) to ensure other vehicles can safely and efficiently drop off their students. This must also be done in the west lot and not the east side staff parking lot.
Next, do not park in the bus lanes. Buses arrive at many times throughout the school day. The bussing lane on the front curb out front should not be used to park or drop off your student. Instead, use our west lot drop-off process described below.

ARRIVAL
During arrival, all walking students must use designated crosswalks. Here are a few more details.
Car Drop-off: A drop-off car line will run through our West parking lot. Please remain in your vehicle and have your child ready to exit. New this year—Please pull as far forward as possible (all the way to the gazebo) to drop your child off. This allows students to exit your vehicle directly onto the sidewalk and not walk across the parking lot. It will also allow more parents to drop their children off simultaneously, improving our efficiency and saving you/them time.
Buses: Buses will drop off in front of the school. Students will exit the buses around 7:45 at the first bell.
Entering the building
K-1st grade students enter our front main entrance doors.
2nd-3rd grade students enter the front doors at the SE corner of the building.
4th-6th grade students enter the front doors at the SW corner of the building.
Parents will be permitted to walk students to class to begin the school year. Parents need to exit the building by 8:00 am.
Staff will greet students and do a quick visual screen at each entrance.
DISMISSAL
Car Pick-up: A car pick-up line will run through our West parking lot. Students line up in our gym with staff and then are released to the gazebo area once their car is seen.
Bussers: Bus students will be released to get on the bus in front of the school.
Parent Walk-up: Parents and caregivers can walk to the back of our building to pick up their students. New this year—Students will form a line behind their teacher under the covered area of the playground. The parent or caregiver must check-in with the student’s teacher to be released.
Walkers: Parents who give students permission to walk home, must use designated crosswalks. We dismiss walkers out to 5th Street so they can use our crossing guard at 5th and Douglas, and 5th and Cedar.*
*Picking up your student on Cedar St. is strongly discouraged. Our dismissal processes are safe and efficient, and typically take 5-10 minutes from beginning to end. Thank you for using one of our designated dismissal processes.

Thank you for supporting your child’s participation in the upcoming Oregon Statewide Assessments. Assessment is an important part of each student’s academic experience. Beginning in kindergarten and through grade 12, learners in the Canby School District experience a variety of formative, interim, and summative assessments. Oregon Statewide Assessments are one example of a summative assessment administered in grades 3 through 8, and grade 11. Students in these grade levels are required to participate in English Language Arts and Math assessments annually. In grades 5 and 8, students also participate in Science.
Canby School District, like all districts in Oregon, is striving for 95% or greater student participation. This goal is essential for understanding the depth and breadth of learning for student groups across our schools, and for evaluating programs and resources. Oregon Summative Assessment data provides information to the Canby community and to district teams about our successes or strengths and areas for improvement.
We will be communicating additional information about Oregon Statewide Assessment dates for your students’ grade level and ways to support your student’s success.
