College Funding Coach
On Tuesday, October 4th from 6:00-7:30pm, the College Funding Coach will offer a free in-person and live webinar. There is no cost (except your time) to attend.
As you can imagine, the stock market has gone up and gone down. Taxes have gone up and gone down. Unemployment has increased and then decreased. But two things have remained constant every year: approximately 20 million high school students head off to college, and since 2000, the cost of tuition and fees at American colleges has more than tripled the rate of inflation.
Whether you have a preschool student or a senior in high school, you will learn valuable information that is timely for you. I have seen the workshop and am excited to participate.
Below is a flyer about The College Funding Coach event. Register by clicking on the following link: College Funding Coach Registration
While the event is free of charge, registration is appreciated.

Military Release - Juniors and Seniors
Attention Families of Junior and Senior Students:
The Thompson School District, in accordance with state and federal law, authorizes the release of names and addresses of students to Armed Forces Recruiting Officers. The recruiting services have requested this information in order to inform students about scholarship programs, tuition assistance and other educational and vocational training opportunities available from the military. Service in any branch of the Armed Forces is an employment and educational alternative which high school graduates have today. Federal, state and district regulations specify that the name and address of your son or daughter will be released to the recruiting services unless you opt out on the online registration form.
If you would like your 11th and/or 12th grade student(s) to be opted out, please take time to update the military release permission by completing your Annual Student Update online.
Annual Student Registration (ASR)
The Annual Student Registration link is available on the Parent Portal home page. Parents/guardians in the student’s primary household can review and/or update the student’s household, emergency contact and health information and permissions for the 2022-2023 school year and add a new student.

Apply for FREE meals
Earlier this year, an adjustment impacting meal benefits for students across the United States was made at the federal level. As a result, beginning on the first day of the upcoming school year, students will be charged for all school meals unless they qualify for free or reduced meal benefits.
How do I qualify for free and reduced price meals in Thompson School District?
Applying for benefits is easy!
To learn more, please visit https://bit.ly/2RZ7Ddf
Even if you are unsure if you qualify for benefits, we encourage you to fill out an application.
Are there other benefits to applying for meal benefits?
Yes! In addition to access to free or reduced price meals, eligible students may also qualify for a reduction in district student fees and other benefits that
are offered through local partners.
What if I don’t qualify for free or reduced price meals?
If you are certain that you do not qualify for benefits, you can add funds to your student’s meal account by visiting myschoolbucks.com.

What is DAAC?
Both state and federal accountability place great emphasis on including families within the accountability process. While state statute requires the formation of accountability committees, these committees can be activated to meet many of the ESSA expectations as well (e.g., stakeholder engagement in the planning and implementation process under school improvement). Regardless of the structure, parents are expected to engage in meaningful consultation in accountability and improvement planning. Furthermore, schools and districts are expected to report school data and document plans in a transparent manner. DAACs must consist of the following, at a minimum:
1) Three parents of students enrolled in the district
2) One teacher employed by the district
3) One school administrator employed by the district
4) One person involved in business in the community within district boundaries.
DAACs must select one of their parent representatives to serve as chair or co-chair. Local school boards will establish the length of the term for DAAC chair/co-chairs. To be consistent with SAC responsibilities, DAACs shall meet at least quarterly.
