MST Weekly Update
February 17, 2023
This coming Monday is President's Day and is a non-school day in Manchester. We will return to school for four days on February 21st and then we go into February vacation the following week (2/27-3/3).
This week MST is undertaking two giving projects that will provide assistance to our own students as well as people halfway around the world in Syria. Thank you to our NHJAG students and students in our EL program as well as our 10th graders for organizing these two generous endeavors. I am so proud to work at a school where students are so caring of others. Thank you to all of our parents for raising such generous young adults.
MST's Food Pantry
Over the past month, Job's for America's Graduates (JAG) students have been working with Mrs. Glennon the school social worker to re-open the MST food pantry. Students have been doing inventory and packing up clothes to donate to local charities across Manchester. In class, students have been creating posters and flyers to get the word out. Students are working in conjunction with the NH Food Bank to ensure that no student is food insecure.
Within the next few weeks, the plan is to be fully up and running. At this time, any student who would like to access the food pantry may reach out to Mrs. Glennon in B103, Mrs. King in room B101, Ms. Wheeler in E121 or Ms. Darby in room B124. Mrs. Blanchette in the front office also has a key, so any staff member may get the key from her to assist a student. (Staff, simply write down on the log the approximate weight of the bag of food and your initials only). All food will be non-perishables.
In the very near future, we will also be offering “weekend bags” which students may pick up from Mrs. Glennon in room B103 on Thursdays. The first weekend bags will be available on Thursday February 23rd just before vacation. You must sign up by Tuesday of each week for a Thursday bag. If you would like to sign up, please reach out to staff listed above or email Mrs. Glennon at: cglennon@mansd.org Please include your name and email address. This information will be kept confidential and will not be shared with other students. Please stop by Mrs. Glennon's or Mrs. King's office if you have any questions.
Super Bowl Commercials
Did YOU have a favorite? Our Business & Marketing CTE program held its annual COMMERCIAL BOWL on Monday following Super Bowl Sunday. Students evaluated elements of a successful commercial. Is the brand clear? How likely will this commercial be talked about after the event? Did it elicit emotion? Would you want to see it again?
The consensus for this year's super bowl winners came down to, "The Farmer's Dog," "Popcorners," and "TUBI." Congrats!
Cosmo Students Visit Dolce Vita
Cosmetology third year students visited the Dolce Vita postgraduate program on Monday February 13th. Licensed cosmetologists accepted into the program will be able to become a certified Master Stylist and Master Colorist. The students enjoyed learning about the program and the options available to them once they are a licensed cosmetologist.
College Fair at MST on 2/22/23
MST will be hosting a College Fair in the Brennan Center on Wednesday February 22nd from 9:00-1:30. More than 40 colleges will be in attendance as well as recruiters from the military and the City Year program. this is a great opportunity for our students to meet with college representatives and recruiters to start planning for their future.
Below is the list of the colleges that will be attending our College Fair.
Donations for Earthquake Victims
On Sunday February 5th, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit Turkey and Syria resulting in over 37,000 deaths. MST will be taking up a collection for victims who live in Syria. Donations of new or like new winter clothes, sleeping bags, sporting goods, etc. can be brought in to MST and left in Room E102 or Student Support. Cash donations can also be sent directly to NuDay. The QR code below can be used to send cash donations.
2nd Quarter Report Cards
2nd quarter report cards were distributed to students on Monday 2/6. They are also uploaded to Aspen for viewing.
When you are looking at the Q2 report card, you should see a 2 or greater in the second column for one or more competencies. This indicates that progress is being made. The comment should also indicate that as well. If there are all 1s and/or a comment saying that progress is not being made, that is showing you that your child needs to work much harder to get caught up and earn credit by June. An example of a report card showing progress is shown below.
