A MESSAGE FROM OUR SCHOOL PRINCIPAL:
Leadership Roles at Home
A Leader in Me brings opportunities for academic growth and growth inall areas of development. Although children must be knowledgeable when
they graduate, they must also be healthy, engaged, responsible, and caring
people.
One of the best ways to help your child realize his or her worth and leadership
potential is to provide an opportunity to lead. Most Leader in Me Schools offer
student leadership roles as a way to teach:
- Responsibility.
- Leadership.
- Contribution.
Leadership roles can also be used at home.
To begin:
Talk with you your child about the leadership role he or she holds at school.
Talk with your child about the leadership role he or she might be
interested in at home.Discuss why he or she is interested in the role. Ask what leadership
qualities your child has that will help. Ask how he or she will handle
homework or other commitments with this new-role responsibility.Together, discuss, write, and sign the paper detailing the leadership
behavior and expectations of the role.
Give your child a week or so to adjust and then discuss how it’s going. This may
open a conversation on how to handle things that are too easy or too difficult.
Express appreciation and celebrate success!

Art Room Needs Colored Pottery and Tiles
We need as much as possible to break and use for our Pontiac Parrots so if we could get any donated ceramic plates, mugs, bowls, bathroom tiles, etc. that would greatly help us out (I'll be scouring thrift stores and hitting up tile shops for scraps). They need to be BRIGHTLY colored... red, blue, yellow, green, orange, purple (no neutrals).
Thank you SO MUCH!
Sincerely,
Mrs.Quam
Middle School Music Programs
All of our 5th grade students were recently visited by band, chorus, and orchestra students from Summit Parkway Middle School. Each ensemble performed for our students, the directors introduced their middle school programs, and our students asked any questions they had concerning the middle school music classes. If your 5th grade child is interested in participating in band, chorus, or orchestra and will be attending a Richland Two middle school next year, the district is asking you to indicate that interest by completing an online registration form by March 31st. You can access the form as follows:
- go to www.richland2.org
- click on the Explore menu in the upper right hand corner
- click on I'm a Richland Two Student or Parent
- scroll down the list of tabs on the right hand side and click on Middle School Music Form
Or here is the direct Link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfp-k1wxYWWEFKDu6ujA8wuoSDuqcaKFAMKxqEIhTOIW-LyKQ/viewform
I have a limited number of paper brochures only available for those with no internet access. Please have your child come by my music room to pick one up if this applies to your situation and you would like to register your child for a middle school music program. If you have any questions concerning middle school music registration please feel free to contact me.
Thank you!

Should I Send My Child to School Sick?
Great Information for parents about keeping your child home or not if they are sick.
IT'S TIME FOR YEARBOOKS!
Pontiac Elementary School

Dear First Grade Parents,
Each year, first grade students throughout Richland School District Two take the RAVENS Aptitude Test. It is a completely visual test. A pattern is given, with a part missing. Think of it like an almost complete jigsaw puzzle, with one piece missing. The students must use the given visual clues to decide which of the given pieces would best fit in the puzzle. As far as test goes, it is actually quite fun!
The district uses the results of this test as one piece of data that may help your child qualify for the district’s gifted and talented class, ALERT. As your child progresses through the grades, the district looks at many pieces of data. This is just the first. There will be many opportunities for your child to show his/her giftedness.
1st graders in our Montessori magnet will take the RAVENS test Tuesday, March 19. 1st graders in our traditional classrooms will take the RAVENS test Thursday, March 21. We will begin around 8:45. It is not a timed test, but most students are done by 10:00. Please try not to schedule any appointments for your child on the morning of this day. Also, please ensure your child has had a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast. (We don’t want any unreliable scores because your child is hungry or sleepy.) Also, a child cannot study for this test.
Thank you for your continued support,
Pontiac Elementary First Grade Teachers
