SDSL's Cornerstone Newsletter

In January 2009, the South Dakota State Library started our e-newsletter, the Cornerstone. Its first edition articles included the Best Children's Books of 2008, the 2010 Summer Reading Program, grant opportunities and the E-Resource of the Month (which was SIRS Discoverer & Researcher). This site was a tool created by the staff to inform and educate librarians and library staff in South Dakota. It was originally produced monthly, with dedicated sections for school libraries, children and young adult services, and more. This original site continued through 2015.

From 2016 through 2021, the Cornerstone was moved to a weekly format with one primary article, very much like a blog - as it was hosted on blogspot. This was both done for readership and an ease of use for the SDSL staff.

By September, 2021, the team upgraded the newsletter to Smore, a popular educational newsletter tool, of which you are reading this now. Many of South Dakota library staff will have also noticed over this past year they have been receiving "SDSL Weekly Update" emails from the State Library. These are shared out to the listservs or email lists in use by the SDSL.

Which brings us to now, as we close out the year of 2023, we also see the end of our #SDSLCornerstone era. The South Dakota State Library thanks all of you who have enjoyed our Cornerstone newsletter over the years. We have many ideas going forward and, in the meantime, please continue to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and of course, at library.sd.gov.
