ALL BULLDOG
Sept 11-16, 2023 Marysville Jr/Sr High School
Principal's Note
Monday is 9/11 and I hope you stop to remember those who gave their lives that day 22 years ago, in addition to those who have served or continue to serve to keep us safe in this great country. We are so lucky that we get to celebrate this Homecoming week as we welcome back alumni, create memories during the week's festivities, have an awesome parade and pep rally, and dance the night away after the football game Friday night. Please have lots of fun and be safe in everything you do. And always remember. Have a great week!
Tim Woodcock
***Please remember that school releases at 1:30 pm Friday. Buses will run at the conclusion of school before the parade. See the rest of newsletter for further info and as always, call the school at 562-5386 if you have questions.***
You've Got Mail...Or Do You???
Mrs. Behrens sent out an email to all students and their caregivers on Friday. If you did not receive one, please let the school know. She sends out a lot of important information so it is pertinent that we have correct and current email addresses on file. Please email Secretary Michelle Schmelzle at mschmelzle@usd364.org or call the office at 562-5386.

There will be a Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) meeting on Sept. 13 (Wednesday) right after school in Mr. Friedrichs' room. Stop by for a snack and conversation to get the year started. Talk to Nathan Cook, Mr. Friedrichs, or Mrs. Wolfe if you have questions!

When Shannon finishes her work she is always willing to help others if I ask.
Bulldog of the Week in Junior High: Mitchell Crome
Mitchell is always striving to do his best work. He is focused, eager to learn new things, and create art. He is polite, respectfully, and a joy to have in class.
Pilsl Earns Eagle Scout Rank
Junior Brenner Pilsl was honored on September 3rd for earning Eagle Scout rank. Eagle Scout is the highest advancement rank in Boy Scouting. Since 1912 more than 2 million Boy Scouts have earned this prestigious title. His project was the Rosary prayer garden at St. Gregory's. Congratulations, Brenner!
Counselor's Corner
There have been recent changes being created for seniors this year and I believe that they should all be positive for students planning on attending a post-secondary institution. We will be holding an Apply Kansas event on October 5th, in which I will be giving students lots of information regarding applications, FAFSA, housing contracts, etc, but in the meantime I wanted to let you know some information.
Through Apply Kansas, which is a statewide initiative, there will be three days in November in which all schools in Kansas (private and public) will have their application fees waived. My advice is for students to start the applications if they would like but then hit "save" instead of submit if there is that option. Any applications submitted before or after November 7 - 9th will not be waived.
I will be bringing the students unofficial transcripts with me to the Apply Kansas date because they will need their class rank and GPA. We will also be doing AEP activities in which they begin to prepare for their applications.
FAFSA is being updated from its previous format for a hopefully easier application. It typically opens late fall, but it will not be up and running until January at the earliest. In the meantime, look for information from me towards the end of fall about how to create a FSA ID for both parents and students so that you are ready to fill out the FAFSA when the time comes.
Friday, September 15 - Last day to sign up for Highland concurrent classes.
PLEASE remember to check your child's lunch account on RevTrak. And if needed, please complete the free or reduced lunch application that can be found on our website. We have MANY students who are not eating lunch because of financial reasons. If you need help navigating these documents, please call the main office.

Biotechnology and engineering students, along with Mrs. Holle, interviewed farmers at the cattle auction regarding genetics and feed, visited farms to learn about soil health, crop nutrients, and the process of seed to harvest, and concluded with a trip to the Hanover CO-OP where they learned about marketing, international and domestic sales, the millions of bushels that flow in and out, issues that can arise, and how to grade incoming trucks. The students will follow up with labs in class and a trip to Lyons' ethanol plant later this month.
