Summer Enrichment Camps 2021
The GT Department is currently planning two summer enrichment opportunities for elementary age students: Camp Invention and Destination Imagination.
**For both camps, we are currently planning for dual-platforms, allowing campers to attend either face to face or virtual. As we get closer to camp dates, we will reassess current health and safety guidelines and mandates in place to see if the camps need to move to a virtual-only format.
Destination Imagination Summer Camp
What is it? Destination Imagination teaches "21st century" skills and STEM principles to kindergarten through university level students by collaborative problem solving challenges. Campers will get to experience both creative and critical thinking challenges, design an abbreviated solution to a challenge, and share their ideas by performing in front of an audience.
Dates: June 21-25, 2021
Times: 9:00-3:30 pm
Location: Walker Creek Elementary
**maximum enrollment is 120 face to face campers
**we use past DI challenges & activities to build our curriculum. There will be a small amount of prep work on the part of the instructor before camp begins to design the learning for students and making sure needed supplies are ready. In addition, instructors will need to meet for a couple of short planning sessions after school during the month of May (sessions may be Zoom or face to face depending on health & safety guidelines in place at the time). We will also need some help the Thursday before the camp begins (June 17) getting supplies and the camp site ready.
**this camp is funded solely through registration fees paid by campers. Instructors are hired as enough students enroll for the camp to cover costs. Anticipated pay for a DI Camp Instructor is $900, which includes both the week of camp as well as any prep time.
**elementary-age children of DI Camp Instructors may attend the week of camp at no cost!**
Camp Invention
What is it? Camp Invention is a weeklong summer adventure with activities that help students explore the connections between science, technology, engineering and innovation.
Dates: July 19-23, 2021
Times: 9:00-3:30 pm
Location: Birdville Elementary
**maximum enrollment is 120 face to face campers.
**The National Inventors Hall of Fame provides the curriculum for Camp Invention. There is very little prep-work for camp instructors. We will need help the Thursday before the camp begins (July 15) getting supplies and the camp site ready.
**This camp is funded solely through registration fees paid by campers. Instructors are hired as enough students enroll for the camp to cover costs. Anticipated pay for a CI Camp Instructor is $750.
