MUSTANG MEMO
November 7-11, 2022
Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
We begin our first full week of November refreshed (that extra hour helped) and recharged to serve. (We are called to become saints.) Our students are embracing MOQ School’s mission to “live in Christan service” with their work on several service projects this month.
Pink Out: On October 26, students and staff wore pink to spotlight Breast Cancer research. MOQ School donated $1,500 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Thank you!
Operation Others Food Drive: This week students are invited to bring a food item that will support the mission of Operation Others to provide food to over 1,200 area families for the holidays. See donation details below.
Christmas Family: Our Jr. High Houses have adopted a family in need for Christmas. Students will organize a fundraising event, shop and wrap Christmas gifts for each member of the family. Thank you to Mary P. and MOQ Human Needs Committee for providing our students with this service opportunity.
Veterans Day: This Thursday MOQ will honor Veterans with a special assembly. Please join us for this very special salute on Thursday, November 10, at 2:00 PM in the church.
Acts of Kindness: Dr. Croy challenges our students to make MOQ the kindest school in the Archdiocese. Each day our students look for opportunities to show kindness through their words and actions. Manner words in the cafeteria, encouraging words to classmates, sportsmanship at recess and loving prayers for others are just a few of the ways MOQ is on its way to being the kindest school in the Archdiocese!
It is a true blessing to witness our students’ generosity and empathy for others. Thank you for being such wonderful examples for our students. The caring and generous spirit of the MOQ community is such a gift!
In gratitude,
Maureen

Discipline With Purpose
The goal of Discipline With Purpose (DWP) is to promote self-discipline. Respect for oneself, others, authority and property, and the maintenance of a safe and healthy environment in which to learn is at the heart of Mary Our Queen School’s philosophy of discipline. Students are to behave in a manner which is morally responsible and brings credit to themselves, their families, and the school. Parental support is an important part of the school’s discipline policy.
Each month a specific self-discipline skill is spotlighted. Congratulations to our October DWP winners:
Kindergarten: Sloane F., Teresa B., Henry D., Ella S., Bradley M.
Grade 1: Penelope C., Caroline W., Jack S.
Grade 2: Dylan D., Wiley S., Lucas K., Ella K., Mark S.
Grade 3: Edie P., Lily O., Kate K., Nina G.
Grade 4: Ben S., Lily A., Davis M., Maggie S.
Grade 5: Taylor F., Emilee W., Emily S., Lila S.
Grade 6: CJ C., Jagger H., Hayden M.
Jr. High: Rose H., Joslyn K., Payton F., Addy B., Alyssa D., Aidan W., Lydia S., Izzy P., Laeth S., Zane R.
These students were “caught” using their DWP skills and nominated by teachers for the award. One student is randomly drawn from the nominated names and selected for the grand prize DWP winner. Congratulations to Emilee W. for using the DWP skills and winning this month’s grand prize.
We will focus on the skills listed below during November! Please help your child practice the following self-discipline skills this month:
- K-2: Asking Questions
- 3-5: Understanding the Reasons for Rules
- 6-8: Resolving Mutual Problems
Veterans Day Ceremony
All veterans, parents, and parishioners are invited to attend our Veterans Day Ceremony on Thursday, November 10, at 2:00 PM in the church. A reception for the veterans will follow in the Upper Room. This special event is organized by the Jr. High students in the House of Roosevelt and Mr. Cory Vasek.
Lost and Found
Christmas Cantata
Mark your calendars!! Tuesday, December 6, students in Grades K-4 will perform for friends and family at 6:30 PM in the school gym. The theme for this year’s Cantata is Countdown to Christmas. Thank you to Miss Imada for all of her work to direct this production. Many students have been requesting lyric sheets for home in addition to the ones they have in class. Let's go paperless–click HERE for a digital copy of all songs and lyrics, feel free to print, bookmark, etc.
Students in Grades 5-8 will perform at Songfest in May.
Dismissal Procedure for Inclement Weather
As noted in the MOQ Family Handbook, in the event of inclement weather, Mary Our Queen School will cancel school if Westside Community Schools cancel school. The Omaha Archdiocese Catholic Schools may also announce school closures. Families will receive notification of closures via a FACTS text message. If the weather becomes bad after school is in session, our intention is to complete the school day. In the event of inclement weather, it is the parents’ decision to take children home prior to the regular dismissal time. Parents may not take children other than their own unless the school office has written or oral permission for them to do so.
Extended Care News
Please fill out the November calendar as soon as possible.
We will be open for Break Care on Wednesday, November 23rd. Be sure to sign up by November 9th to reserve your spot and ensure the lowest price. If we do not have enough children registered by November 9th, Break Care for November 23rd will be cancelled. If Break Care is cancelled by Extended Care Staff, you will not be charged. If you cancel your Break Care reservation after the cut-off date, you still will be charged for Break Care.
If you are making room for Santa's deliveries and need to unload some gently used toys, please consider donating them to Extended Care. We are in need of action figures, building materials (magnetic bricks/shapes, Legos, etc.), trucks, dolls and play kitchen accessories.
Registration for Extended Care is closed, email me with any questions or concerns regarding registration.
You may check your balance on FACTS. Please look over your bill. If you have any questions, reach out to us at extendedcare@moqschool.org. You may pay through FACTS, with a check, or with cash. WeShare is no longer an option for payment.

Cafeteria News
For the last two years, lunch was free for all of our students due to COVID government subsidies. Beginning this school year, we are again charging for lunch. Due to this change, many lunch accounts are carrying a negative balance--in some cases, a large negative balance.
Our new FACTS SIS Family Portal provides an easy way to access your lunch account and review charges and the current balance. Once you login through the Family Portal, it is only a few clicks to see your account balance and make an online deposit. These same features are also available with the mobile app.
It is the parents’/guardian’s responsibility to keep their lunch account in good standing by reviewing the account on a regular basis, ensuring that there are sufficient funds in the account to cover all daily lunch charges, and clearing negative balances as soon as possible.
It is important that families login to their FACTS Family Portal on a regular basis to review their lunch account activity.
If you have questions about accessing the FACTS Family Portal, please contact me or stop in. The best time to contact me is after 2:00 PM on school days.
Thank you,
Michelle Zaleski
Cafeteria Manager
