Principal Message
Dear Sequoia Families,
I hope you are doing well and staying healthy despite our circumstances. Superintendent, Dr. Tracy Smith, sent out an email recently announcing the closure of all schools through the end of the year. This brings up several feelings and questions - logistical and otherwise about student belongings, end of year events, and more. As we come up with a plan for all these things, we will communicate clearly with you all. We know this is disappointing to everyone; we feel it too. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me or your child's teacher with questions as they come up.
Official distance learning begins April 6th. I know all of you have heard from your teachers already but more specific learning opportunities and more live class meetings will begin next week. Please know that we are trying to find a balance of offering several ways for students to engage in learning during this time and also not overwhelm you with too many resources or options. If you need more for your child, please reach out to your child's teacher.
I wanted to let you know that the Sequoia staff will be doing a Sequoia Car Parade through the Sequoia neighborhood next Wednesday at 11:00. What is a Sequoia Car Parade? We will have several staff members (teachers and other Sequoia staff) drive parade style through the neighborhood waving to families and saying hello from afar! We would love for kids and families to stand outside their houses and wave to us as we drive by (keep your distance from others, of course). We will begin at 11:00 and try to get around to several streets near the school. If possible, I will try to let you know what streets we will be driving through ahead of time. At this time, when we are faced with distance learning through the end of the year, it feels even more important to have an opportunity to see as many of you as possible! We know we will not get to all families or streets but we will do our best!
Below I've attached a tip sheet for families about distance learning. These 5 seemingly simple things will help create a structured, consistent environment for distance learning. Please take time to consider how you can implement these elements in your home. Please know that we are here to support you and your children. As always, reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
