Inclusive Schools Week Dec. 4-8
What is Inclusive Schools Week?
Since its inception in 2001, Inclusive Schools Week has celebrated the progress that schools have made in providing a supportive and quality education to an increasingly diverse student population, including students who are marginalized due to disability, gender, socio-economic status, cultural heritage, language preference, and other factors.
The Week also provides a significant opportunity for educators, students, and parents to discuss what else needs to be done to ensure that their schools continue improving their ability to successfully educate all children.
Inclusive Schools Week allows us all to take a moment to applaud the progress we’ve made toward building more inclusive school communities while pledging to continue our work toward becoming a more inclusive society.
How will DHS celebrate?
This year's Inclusive Schools Week theme is 'Draw Me In". As far back as the days of cave drawings, art has been a way for humans to express themselves. Many children begin to communicate through the language of art even before using words. We’ve often heard, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” To celebrate, DHS students and teachers will create a mural in the halls of DHS that depicts how our students feel DHS is 'HOME.' Last week, students were surveyed to determine their thoughts on why they love DHS. There were so many great responses. Students stated they love DHS because of their friends, teachers, athletics, club involvement, band, the opportunity to participate in theatre, JROTC, the many academic opportunities, and so much more. Stay tuned to the DHS social media sites this week to see the progress on this mural and other activities as we celebrate School Inclusive Week.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
