Why read 20 minutes a night?
We want Ridgecrest students to read on their own or with an adult for at least 20 minutes each night. This will improve their vocabulary and help them be successful in middle school and in high school and beyond. Reading is not optional even as an adult.
If they haven't been reading 20 minutes a day, they are behind their classmates by thousands of words already. Help them catch up, it's never too late to start reading every night.
We want our students on the path to success
What are we doing in the library?
Kindergarten - 3rd grade
We are reading a lot of Washington Children's Choice Picture Book nominees, including Creepy Carrots, Gilbert Goldfish Wants a Pet, Chloe and the Lion, and This is Not My Hat. Learn more about a few of these books by watching these videos/book trailers:

4th grade
We have been learning about searching effectively online, using Google as our search engine. We have learned some vocabulary, so ask your 4th grader about search engines, browsers, URLs, and snippets! (Image: highlighting keywords and eliminating unimportant words to make our searching better).
5th and 6th grade
We have been doing booktalks, reading aloud, and studying primary sources. (Photo: baseball primary sources)
Book Fair!
We earned over $2000 in free books through the Scholastic Book Fair held during the PTA Movie Night on November 22. Thank you for your support of our library and its collection.
Book Checkout
Students have 1821 books checked out from the Ridgecrest Library as of November 26th, out of over 12,000 books and materials available for checkout. Some materials are for staff, but the majority of what we buy is for our students to read and enjoy.
