A message from the PTCC Chair
Dear GLOBE community,
The Parent Teacher Community Council (PTCC) is excited to kick off another school year at GLOBE! It was so great meeting many of you at orientation — thank you for stopping by our table and purchasing spirit wear! The funds raised by the PTCC go directly to support the GLOBE school, staff, and community.
In addition to fundraising, the PTCC relies heavily on volunteerism to support our efforts. We strongly encourage each GLOBE family to volunteer at least 10 hours per year. There are many ways to volunteer at GLOBE, including the following:
Sign up to help at an event
Coffee Talks (Sign up now to help August 17–18.)
Ice cream social (Keep an eye out next week for the sign-ups, and come volunteer on August 31.)
Joining our PTCC leadership team! We will be holding a special election this month to elect a new officer (PTCC Secretary). If you would like to submit a nomination or find out more, please email PTCCofficers.globeacademy@gmail.com.
Volunteer to lead an event or group! We are looking for leads or teams to help us plan many events this year:
Science Night
Annual Auction
Lower Campus room parent coordinator
Field Days
Photography team
Bookkeeper
Other (Have an idea? Please share it with us!)
Volunteering is so rewarding and a great way to get to know GLOBE staff and families. Not sure how to help? Fill out our annual volunteer survey and we will get in touch. Please also watch the PTCC section of this weekly newsletter for volunteer opportunities, fundraising updates, event info, and other updates!
A special thanks this week to Ana Teixeira, Farah Chang, Caitlin Fox, Neely Wilson, Rina Guerrero-Kesler, Florence Cannon, F.G. Courtney, and Fred Miller for helping with orientation, stocking the staff lounges, and providing lunch to the staff after orientation. We truly couldn’t have gotten it all done without you!
Sincerely,
Stephanie Gumbis
PTCC Chair
Host families wanted
We are excited to announce that GLOBE has been awarded a Spanish Conversation and Cultural Assistant (Auxiliares) grant from the Spanish Embassy!
We have two lovely Spanish assistants who will be joining us in September. We need GLOBE host families to welcome an assistant into their home.
Please contact Robyn Brandman, Host Family Liaison, at robynloren@gmail.com if you would love to host a Spanish Auxiliar.
School Meals
Families are required to either pay for school meals (via our online platform) or be determined eligible to receive free or reduced-price meal benefits (via school meals application). Visit The GLOBE Academy’s website at theglobeacademy.org/School-Lunch for more information.
Campus notes
Welcome Back! It was wonderful to see returning and new students at both campuses today.
Please refer to our recent communication as we navigate the first few days of school. It's going to be a great year!
Chorus teacher travels to Vienna and Salzburg, Austria
GLOBE Chorus Teacher, Miss Quarterman, traveled to Vienna and Salzburg, Austria this summer, to chaperone a group of honor choir students. It’s been twenty years since Miss Quarterman visited Europe, so needless to say, she was excited to go on this adventure!
"Being able to travel and see the birthplace of an influential musician such as W. A. Mozart reminded me of the vision of GLOBE. To develop globally minded citizens who have the knowledge, skills and attitudes to effect positive change in our world."
Miss Quarterman is looking forward to fostering the vision of GLOBE in her music classes as she teaches our wonderful students this school year.
Parent Teacher Community Council
The Parent Teacher Community Council (PTCC) is looking forward to a great year — and we need your help. GLOBE counts on each family volunteering a minimum of 10 hours per year to keep our school community humming (and parents typically report these volunteer hours aren’t just helpful to GLOBE but also personally rewarding). To start getting your volunteer hours in, please complete our annual volunteer survey, and, to get your first few hours, consider signing up to volunteer at the upcoming Coffee Talks.
Spirit Wear
Thank you all for supporting GLOBE and purchasing Spirit Wear at orientation! We apologize that options were limited. We listened to feedback last year and have switched vendors! Our new online store is open and it closes August 19, so be sure to check it out and place your orders! We will have another store in the fall with new options!
