HOUR OF CODE WEEK of January 22-26
THEME: Coders and Readers and Writers
This upcoming week (January 22-26) is Computer Science Education Week. This week is dedicated to showing students K-12 the importance of computer science education. It is organized by code.org with the goal of getting millions of students of all ages (and adults) to participate in the “Hour of Code”.
According to code.org, most K-12 schools in the U.S. do not teach computer science. Los Altos School District, thanks to funding from LAEF, is fortunate enough to be in the minority of U.S. Schools that are offering every student the opportunity to learn computational thinking. All students, TK-6th receive computer science instruction and are offered opportunities through electives in 7th and 8th grade.
During this week, students will have the opportunity to participate in computational thinking/coding activities. Check out this awesome video and get excited on https://hourofcode.com/us.
Coding ideas you can do at home with an iPad or computer:
Kinder: Bee Bot app and Scratch Jr.
1st and 2nd grade: Daisy the Dinosaur, Scratch Jr, Hopscotch, codeable, code.org
3rd-6th grade: Scratch: http://scratch.mit.edu/ or, go to code.org for lots of lessons and tutorials for all ages
"Everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer…because it teaches you how to think."- Steve Jobs
Let’s get coding!

International Week 2024
Santa Rita's International Week (week of March 11th) is coming! It is one of our most beloved traditions at Santa Rita! It celebrates our diversity, makes students proud of their heritage, and brings our community together! We will have a family potluck, country presentations, flag parades, and dances and end with a school-wide evening festival on Friday, March 15nd.
To make this event a success, we need dance teachers and country presenters.
We are hoping to expand our small group cultural dance this year. If you are interested in teaching a dance to a small group of students during lunchtime in March, please let us know.
We are bringing back parent presentations this year. We need 16 presentations so we would love to have parent or parent/student teams to present. You can present with your child(ren), or support your child(ren) to present by themselves; or you can also present by yourself. Presentations will be given during school time on Thursday March 14 (K/TK) and Friday March 15 (1st-6th).
If you are interested in helping or want to know more, contact Yang Liu at daisy_ly99@hotmail.com or Alice Lee at joy268@hotmail.com.
