Budget Update/Community Listening Session
On October 12, 2022, the Board of Directors received a presentation by Sherwood School District leadership on the financial status of the District in the 2022-23 school year, announcing that the District is facing a current budget deficit that will result in necessary reductions in the amount of $2.2 million in the current school year, as well as additional reductions in 2023-24 and beyond.
The Superintendent will be hosting another Parent/Community Listening Sessions to provide information and answer questions about the current budget status on Tuesday, November 1st from 11:30am to 1:00pm in the District Office Board Room. For additional details on this topic, please visit the District's Budget Update 2022-23 webpage.
Fall Parties
a) Complete a background check and b) submit a proof of vaccination or receive approval for a vaccination exception.
Background checks are completed online: Background Check Forms. Background checks are currently taking 2+ weeks to process. Families can call the front office to check in on the status of their background check.
Proof of vaccination is submitted to the Middleton front office in person or via email (mwunnicke@sherwood.k12.or.us). This can be done on the first day of volunteering. Vaccination exception forms, if needed, can be found here: Medical Exception Request or Religious Exception Request. Completed exception forms are emailed to Steve Emmert at semmert@sherwood.k12.or.us. Exceptions may take up to 14 days to process.
Please notify the office of the time of your party so they can answer questions if they receive phone calls.
Drop Off/Pick Up
We wanted to share a few reminders about car traffic during arrival and dismissal. Please follow the directions of crossing guards and school staff. Refrain from making left hand turns out of the Middleton parking lot and comply with posted traffic signs. Make sure you STOP and REMAIN STOPPED, in school zone crosswalks, as directed by crossing guards. Do not pull through a crosswalk until the crossing guard is safely on the sidewalk.

Character Trait of the Month
Mustang Sally says “Be Friendly!” What does friendly mean? It is having or showing kindness and warmth of a friend or neighbor. The students at Middleton will see monthly news reports from M.E.T.V promoting the character trait of the month along with a question segment and of course a few laughs. Middleton students are being challenged to say hi to a new student or staff, look for kids on the Buddy bench that need a friend, include students to play, be polite, and more. The best way to teach our students is by modeling friendliness ourselves. Let’s be a friendly community! If you need ideas for books to read or family activities to model friendliness reach out to Melissa Horton gmpschorton@gmail.com.
Halloween Candy Buy Back
Help earn money for our school and save your children's teeth! Simply drop off any extra Halloween candy in the marked bin by the school office from October 31st to November 11th. Wilson Ortho will donate $1 per pound to the school for every pound of candy donated! Please see this flyer for additional information.
School Meals: Free & Reduced and Expanded Income Eligibility Programs
We recognize the impact that returning to paid school meals this year can have on family budgets, and encourage parents/guardians to complete an eligibility application to determine if your family qualifies for free or reduced meals -- even if your family may not have been eligible under federal guidelines in past years. The Oregon Expanded Income Eligibility Group (EIG) supports families who do not qualify for meal benefits using federal income guidelines. It provides meal benefits to households with incomes above 185%, but not exceeding 300%, of the federal poverty guidelines.
To apply for either Federal or EIG free/reduced meal eligibility, please complete the Online Free and Reduced Meal Application. For more details on income-based eligibility, please click the image below to access the Federal and Oregon Expanded Income Eligibility charts for the 2022-23 school year.

SSD Parents- We want your feedback!
The Sherwood School District is conducting a community engagement process as we assess how to best meet the needs of our students and families. At Back to School Night we shared a short presentation about this process, as well as an opportunity to complete a parent/guardian feedback survey.
If you were unable to attend the presentation, the information can be found here.
To complete our parent/guardian survey, please visit bit.ly/3DmQiCh or scan the QR code to the right to access our online survey. To complete the survey in Spanish, please visit bit.ly/3Su2OUC.
