Barber Bulletin
Readers are Leaders………….a message from our principal, Dr. Barber
Readers are Leaders! Every year we join a month-long celebration designed to encourage reading as a fun activity for the whole family as we celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday!
Reading, and understanding what you read, is a skill that everyone needs to be successful. The best way to improve understanding is to read a lot. There is nothing like a challenging book to lift you up or take you to another world.
Developing a love of reading will be an asset to your child in all areas of school and give him/her a jumpstart to a lifetime of reading!
Consider joining us this evening at the Richland County Sandhills Library Branch at 6:30pm for a Family Literacy event!
Can’t make it this evening? Stop by in the morning, Friday, March 2, in our courtyard for Books and Bagels as we kick off the opening of our Book Fair!
The book fair will be held from Friday, March 2 – Thursday, March 8. The book fair is open late on Tuesday evening, March 6 until 6:30pm!
STEM Opportunity
Do you know students ages 9-19 who are interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math)? You should tell them about the SC 4-H Engineering Challenge! This event, held on Saturday, April 14 at Midlands Technical College airport campus, features 7 different team competitions and 1 individual competition that students from all over South Carolina can participate in. Information about this year’s competitions and registration can be found on the event website: www.scionthemove.org/engineeringchallenge. Email Katie Burch at korishe@clemson.edu with questions.
Mission Statement
The Community and Action Team hope that you and your family have discussed your vision, plan, or goal for your family. Below are the next steps for creating the Mission Statement.
Creating a Mission statement
After defining the outcome, next is to create a family mission statement. In order to do this, figure out what is most important to your family by answering these seven questions:
- What is the purpose of our family?
- What kinds of things do we want to do?
- What kind of feeling do we want to have in our home?
- What kind of relationships do we want to have with one another?
- What are our family’s priorities?
- What are our responsibilities as family members?
- How can we contribute to society as a family and become more service-oriented?
Give your children the opportunity to express their feelings of what they think is important to your family. Mission statements do not need to be long or formal, they just need to represent what is important to you and your family. Don’t try to rush this process. This may take a few months! Make sure that your family feels that the mission statement clearly represents what is important to everyone.

The Hydrocephalus Association’s mission is to “eliminate the challenges of hydrocephalus” through the support of innovative research, support, education and advocacy. That’s why our school is proud to participate in the Hydrocephalus Association Kids to Cure Hydrocephalus WALK. In addition to learning about hydrocephalus students will learn about helping others. We encourage children to ask family and friends for donations (donations may be made online using a credit card for those children registering online.) Participants collecting $10 or more will qualify for WALK prizes. More information on how to register online is please use the address http://support.hydroassoc.org/2018PontiacWALK
We are looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday, March 24, 2018 beginning at 9am on the playground / track field, we will enjoy a fun silly run and celebrate our success. We invite your whole family to participate. We will be starting March, 1, 2018 – March 31, 2018.
