October 10-14, 2022
Principal's Message...
As a reminder, Monday Oct.10 IS A SCHOOL DAY for Sierra School. The high school district does not have school, but we do!
If you are on campus during school hours, you must sign in and out at the office, wear a badge, and be fingerprinted. This is for the safety of our students, and accountability in the event of an emergency.
Our TEAM Sierra Fall Carnival is approaching at the end of the month. We need volunteers to decorate their cars for Trunk-or-Treat, and candy donations. Please take a look at the attached flyers for details.
Halloween is Monday, October 31st. Students will be allowed to wear costumes to school that day. We do expect the following costume guidelines: No masks, nothing scary or gory, no weapons or props, no inflatable costumes (like the giant T-Rex), and all costumes must meet our dress guidelines. If you have specific questions, please reach out to your child's teacher.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Reagan Phillips

STRESS! WORRY! ANXIETY!
It’s no secret that life can be stressful. Recently, I have had an influx of anxious students requesting extra help. If you are seeing the same with your littles too, here are some ways you can help decrease your child(ren)’s anxiety at home:
Encourage them to face their fears and not run away from them. It sounds counterintuitive but avoiding anxiety-provoking situations only maintains the anxiety. Practice, practice practice!
Notice and reward BRAVE behaviors.
Let them know it’s OKAY to be imperfect.
Focus and direct them to the POSITIVES in life every single day.
Limit their intake of news or stressful grown-up discussions. I can’t stress this enough. Your children ARE listening.
Schedule relaxing activities/silly time!
Encourage good sleep habits. A good night’s sleep will make them less vulnerable to anxiety.
Help your child problem-solve their worry. Validate their feelings of fear, figure out together how to decrease their fear by walking them through the what-if’s so they have a plan because most anxiety comes from the unknown.
Encourage your child to express their fears - Talk about it! Draw it! Name it! Get. It. Out! Show that fear who’s boss!!!
Practice relaxation techniques with your kids. Deep breathing is the most effective first line of defense to calm nerves.
Stay Calm - If they see you are not overly nervous in scary or stressful situations, they will feel they won’t need to be either and they will have another layer of feeling safe in your care.
Repeat! :o)

Hello Dragons!
Fall is in the air, it is the perfect time to fall into a good book. This month we are continuing our story The School is Alive written by Jack Chabert and illustrated by Sam Ricks. We are about halfway in our chapter book for grades 3rd thru 5th. Our TK-1st graders are enjoying the Mo Willems book The Pigeon Will Ride the Roller Coaster! 2nd grade got to listen to Creepy Pair of Underwear by Aaron Reynolds. Lots of fun reading stories and getting ready for all that fall has to offer. Our fall Scholastic Book Fair will be here Oct 31st. Keep an eye out for flyers on how you can volunteer to help out. Remember, good things happen when you read!
