A Message from Dr. Zilliox
Dear Fredonia School Community,
I hope this finds you well and enjoying some of the fantastic fall weather recently. Each year our district looks to move forward towards our vision by selecting a cross section of focus areas in the spirit of continuous improvement. Please see our focus areas for this school year from both a district and school-level perspective below.
District-level focus areas:
To promote and sustain our updated mission, vision, and core beliefs as key philosophical touchpoints for why we exist, what we aspire to be, and the driving forces behind behavior and decision-making across the district
Develop a deeper understanding of our overall academic programs and assist in establishing instructional next steps to move closer to our vision.
To establish an environment of belonging that supports dignity for all students and adults by recognizing and better understanding the role of diversity, equity, and inclusion within our district.
Develop a plan to maintain and upgrade our district facilities based on need and preserve an environment that is conducive to effective teaching, learning, and overall performance.
Create a fiscally responsible budget that aligns to our updated mission and vision that is respectful of our taxpayers and supports student achievement.
School-level focus areas:
Recognize and support the basic needs of our students and adults to provide a foundation for learning.
Implement procedures, protocols, and/or strategies that are culturally responsive to promote positive working relationships, a feeling of connection, and a sense of community among all students and adults within our district.
Develop social-emotional learning skills that result in self-awareness, self-management, and the capability to focus on our academic and achievement goals.
Provide purposeful, consistent, and innovative educational experiences that address learning growth through targeted instruction and intervention.
We will share more information about the detailed action steps associated with each focus area in coming updates. We look forward to working together over the course of the year to continue the tradition of Fredonia being a great place to teach and learn. Thanks in advance for everyone's contribution to this effort.
Respectfully,
Brad Zilliox
A beautiful display about Mexico by Mrs. Putnam's class!
Students Sample Careers in Construction
This past week, Mrs. DePue and Mr. Haase took 18 of our students to experience the Annual WNY Construction Career Days at the Operating Engineers Training Center in Lake View, NY. Students have the opportunity to learn about careers in the construction industry and participate in hands-on activities like bricklaying, welding, painting, carpentry, and operating heavy machinery. They meet with colleges and employers to discuss the process of career and educational advancement in these fields. This was a great chance for our students to explore opportunities for their future.
Seeing Doubles
The girls varsity tennis team shared the league title with Southwestern with a 6-2 overall record and a 5-1 league record. Lucy Prevet and Nella Darrell-Sterbak qualified for the sectionals tournament at the Miller Tennis Center this Friday October 14th in Buffalo NY. The girls will represent Chautauqua county as the #1 doubles team. Way to go, girls!
We love this photo of Mrs. Sells and her class at Harvest View Greenhouses!
Youth Activation Committee Summit
A group of our students recently attended the Unified Youth Activation Summit at Silver Creek HS. This event saw representatives from several area schools gather to support our efforts towards inclusion for all students. Twelve schools from across the area attended, including Dunkirk City School District, Fredonia Central School District, Iroquois Central School District, Lake Shore Central School District, Springville-Griffith Institute, Holland Central Schools, East Aurora Union Free School District, West Seneca East, Eden Central School, Cattaraugus-Little Valley Central School District & Pioneer Central High School. We are so excited that the UNIFIED culture is spreading in WNY! Thanks to all of our partners for helping with this movement!
Great message from our Elementary artists! Way to celebrate our core beliefs!
Hands-On Learning
Students in Mr. Burkett's elementary classroom are having lots of fun learning about letters and even making home made play dough! We love to see such great examples of hands-on learning happening in the classroom.
Fall-ing for First Grade! We love getting into the spirit.
Featuring...
Thanks to Smore for featuring our Weekly Update as their Newsletter of the Week! Check out the full post here. They did call Mr. Drollinger our Middle School Principal, but we'll forgive them. :) Quote: "Reading this newsletter offers great insight into the spirit of the district."
It's nice to know the good work our students and staff are doing is being noticed!
We think every member of our #fredoniafamily should be able to have a ton of fun on Halloween! If you have a gently used costume at home, or would like to purchase one to give, please consider donating to our students whose families may not be able to provide a costume for them this year. You can donate by dropping off costumes at the Wheelock or Elementary main offices. Thanks to Julie Hassett for this great program!
Helping Families In Need - Every Weekend
Fredonia CSD is once again partnering with FeedMore WNY to assist families with food insecurity. The Food Bank and Meals on Wheels has joined to become FeedMore WNY. The program offers food free of charge to any family regardless of income. Our counseling team provides bags of non-perishable foods to classrooms on Fridays for participating students to take home over the weekend. If you are interested in learning more, please reach out to Cassie Farrell, Elementary Social Worker, at cfarrell@fcsd.wnyric.org or (716) 679-1581 x2440.
