LycoCTC Rotary Student Of The Month- Katelin Emick
The Lycoming Career and Technology Center is pleased to announce Katelin Emick as
Rotary/LycoCTC Student of the Month for October, 2023. Katelin, daughter of Donna and
Jason Emick of Williamsport, PA, has received this honor based upon her outstanding work
ethic, attendance, behavior, community service, and the recommendation of her LycoCTC
Health Careers class instructor.
A Montoursville Area High School senior, Katelin is a member of the Montoursville Chapters of
the National Science Honor Society and the National English Honor Society, as well as the
Lycoming Career and Technology Chapter of the National Technical Honor Society. She also
enjoys kayaking and reading. Katelin has participated in community service projects with the
Harvest of Hope and Dwell’s Orphanage.
Following graduation in June of 2024, Katelin will attend college to obtain a Master’s Degree in
Communication Sciences and Disorders to become a Speech and Language Pathologist.
Cooperative Education
Two of our students are completing their cooperative education placement at Basil in Muncy.
Anna Masters and Pierce McGuire, both seniors from Muncy HS, are in our Culinary Arts program.
We are excited to continue providing more students with work-based learning experiences and appreciate all of our local businesses partners. There are currently 10 students participating in our cooperative education program.
National Technical Honor Society
Our NTHS students volunteered at the Monster Dash 5k this weekend in Muncy. The staff was appreciative of their help on race day. The students prepared and distributed race packets, assisted with race set-up, sold merchandise, and provided "health and safety" support alongside volunteer firefighters to direct runners and control traffic during the run/walk.
Automotive Technology Level 1
Students in Automotive Level 1 are learning to grind rotors.
Students are also learning how to change rotors on a vehicle.
Students learned how to put a battery back into a vehicle correctly.
Automotive Technology Level 2/3
Students in the Automotive 2/3 program are learning different ways to repair wiring.
Students did a soldered wire strength test
Students also practiced creating electrical circuits with the Meg training.
Computer Systems Technology
An AM student brought in Oregon Trail to test out the Tandy. Mr. Flannery said " sometimes we take a minute to appreciate how good of technology we have now."
Another student disassembled a PlayStation 3 to refresh the thermal paste and dust it out. When there's time, they try to incorporate a variety of devices beyond just desktop computers.
Construction Technology
The Construction students got to mix, pour and level a new concrete pad for the Culinary class.
Students are working with a mason trowel and spreading mortar for concrete blocks.
Criminal Justice
Students in the Criminal Justice class did a Career project. Each student picked a career and created a powerpoint for it. They also did their PT assessment.
Culinary Arts
Students in the Culinary class learned how to calibrate thermometers.
Culinary had their opening day for the Cafe. They had a special breakfast for Veterans. They had Berries & Cream Oatmeal, Irish Eggs Benedict, Cinnamon Bun Pancakes and an All American Breakfast. The students did a great job greeting and serving the guests!
The students also enjoyed carving pumpkins! It allowed them to practice their knife skills.
Early Childhood
LycoTykes Preschool had a theme of Community Helpers. The children were visited by Fireman Casey. They were taught a lesson on fire safety and then had an opportunity to tour a fire truck and ambulance.
Fireman Casey Swank is a LycoCTC alumni. He graduated from the Health Careers Class in 2010. It was wonderful to have him back!
The LycoTykes preschool students went Trick or Treating at LycoCTC!
Health Careers- Mrs. Wallace
Level 1 students in the PM class are working together to build and define medical terms from the medical word parts they are learning in class.
Level 2 students are learning about the Nervous System. The students constructed and labeled models of neurons and brains and discussed their structure and function in the human body.
The Level 2 students are also learning how to provide Passive Range of Motion exercises to their patients.
Health Careers- Mrs. Shaffer
The Level 1 students are learning to use the Snellen chart to test a patient's distance vision.
Level 3 students are learning how to administer oral and injectable medications. They are practicing drawing up medication into a syringe.
Visitors- Army Asset Truck
The Army set up a mobile exhibit for the students. It included Driving Simulators, Army History Wall and an Oculus Rift.

"Build My Future" Event
The Construction class recently attended the "Build My Future" construction career day and industry showcase at the Pennsylvania College of Technology. The students had the opportunity to explore a variety of career opportunities, equipment, and tools in the construction and design industries.
LycoCTC Alumni Spotlight
McKenzy Burley-Muncy Highschool 2018- Health Careers
McKenzy was in the Health Careers program at LycoCTC. She graduated from Muncy Highschool in 2018. While at LycoCTC she earned her CNA certificate. After graduation she attended Pennsylvania College of Technology. She graduated in 2022 with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing. McKenzy is now working at White Deer Run of Allenwood as a Registered Nurse!
Friday Night Lights!
Dr. Stamm & Dr. Skaluba having a little fun before their high school football teams compete against each other in a big game last Friday. Good luck to all our student athletes involved in playoff games.
