One Book, One School
Walker School is doing an all-school read of the BFG (Big Friendly Giant). The BFG is an imaginative story of a young girl named Sophie and the Big Friendly Giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country. It has several important themes including communicating with each other in a language we can all understand, justice and being loyal to our friends, and being kind to everyone. The students are enjoying hearing the book and we are having a door decoration contest in April with a culminating activity of The BFG play coming to Walker school. The students and teachers are loving the Big Friendly Giant, his true friendship, and fun adventures. Feel free to speak to your child about the experience and there is a Disney movie out there of the BFG if you want to watch it at home.
COVID-19 Reminder
Reminder to all parents...
In an effort to keep our students, families, and staff safe, please pay close attention to the following:
Keep your child(ren) home if they are experiencing any ill-like symptoms. However, remember to pay close attention to any COVID-like symptoms your child may be experiencing. District 104 will continue to follow the IDPH interim health guidelines for schools.
COVID-19 Symptoms :
- Fever greater than 100.4 degrees
- New onset of moderate to severe headache
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- New cough
- Sore throat
- New loss of taste or smell
- Fatigue from unknown cause
- Muscle or body aches from unknown cause
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
If a student should be reported with any of these symptoms, it is recommended the student be COVID tested (rapid or PCR test) before returning to school. If the student is not tested, he or she must remain home for 5 days with improvement of symptoms before returning to school. A copy of your student’s test results can be emailed directly to the school nurse, Bianca Vazquez (bvazquez@sd104.us).
As always…
Any student who reports a fever must remain home for 24hrs fever free without the use of fever reducing medications before return to school.
Any student who reports vomiting and/or diarrhea must remain home for 48hrs vomit and/or diarrhea free before returning to school.
In addition, please notify Walker’s main office if your student has tested positive for COVID-19 as they will need to follow a 5-day isolation at home. Please reach out to the school nurse if you have any questions.
