A Note From Principal Colbert

With just 25 days left of school, we want to ensure our students finish strong! Students will be completing their end-of-year assessments in ELA, Math, and Writing throughout the month of May. They will also participate in fun and engaging end-of-year activities (including an all-school field trip to Lincoln Park Zoo and Field Day). It has been an absolute joy to partner with you throughout the 2022-2023 school year.

To the families of our 3rd grade students, we are sad to see your children go; however, we know they will be in great hands next year at Barack Obama School of Leadership and STEM. To our K-2 families, we look forward to welcoming you back to school for the 2023-2024 school year on Monday, August 21st for the first day of school.

Daily attendance and punctuality contribute to improving success in school. These are habits that are learned and will be needed throughout life. Parent/Guardians must require students to attend school daily and to be on time, expect when illness or family emergencies interfere.

In the event of illness, parents are expected to call the school before the start of the school day to report the absence: 708-668-9300. To ensure accuracy, parents are requested to provide the following information: student's name, parent's/guardian's name, grade level, date or dates of absence and reason for absence(s).

Our doors open to all students at 7:50 AM and breakfast is served between 7:50-8:15 AM. If you are dropping your child off at Mohawk each morning, please have him/her at school before 8:15 AM. Our teachers begin teaching promptly at 8:20 AM each morning. For dismissal, all students are dismissed promptly at 3:00 PM.

Positive Character Trait of the Month

Our positive character trait for the month of May is COMPASSION. Each morning, teachers and students spend time reading books, watching brief videos, and talking about what it means to show compassion for oneself and one another. At the end of the month, one student from each classroom will be recognized as Student of the Month for going above and beyond each and every day to show how they consistently showed compassion.
