James Burd Elementary School Newsletter

The James Burd Family will work together to create a welcoming, inspiring, and engaging environment, where all learners take pride in reaching their full potential.
Message from Mr. Flohr
We have had a very good start to the 2022-2023 school year. We're enjoying all of the opportunities to get to know your child and build that strong foundation that will help us make this year successful. I have enjoyed making it around to classrooms, talking with the kids at lunch, and sharing our PBIS bus lessons this week.
I appreciate all of your patience and support since the start of the year. We expect things to take time as we build new routines with the students. Your patience was amazing - especially during the event on Friday, August 23. I know that it was stressful for you, but your child was safe the entire duration of that event. I will continue to work with school staff and safety personnel to debrief and improve our protocols for situations like this.
In this newsletter, you'll find information about the Raider Pack event this month as well as a reminder to update your School Dismissal Manager information.
Reminder: There is no school on Friday, September 2, 2022. The district staff is conducting staff in-service activities. The office will be closed as well for this training.
Yours in learning,
Mr. Flohr

Volunteer Information
The School Board approved updates to our volunteer policy. All of this information is located in our school website. To summarize, volunteers must complete an application that will place them into one of two categories:
- Position Volunteer: This volunteer would be directly responsible for the welfare of our students. Examples of this type of position would include chaperones and tutors. If a parent is applying for this type of volunteer, they must have clearances, TB test, etc prior to being approved by the School Board. It is imperative that you begin the process of this application as soon as possible to ensure that you are on a School Board agenda prior to the event that you wish to participate in.
- Guest Volunteer: This volunteer would be working directly under the supervision and direction of a member of the school staff. An example of this type of volunteer could include parent volunteers. If a parent is applying for this type of volunteer, they do not need clearances or TB test, but they would need approval from the building principal or designee.
If you're interested in being a volunteer, please complete the application below. We will have paper copies of these available in the office area as well as Open House.
