Dear Muskego Lakes Families,

As we shared last week, this past week and next week students have started taking their Spring iReady Assessment for reading and math. This past week, students worked hard to complete their reading assessment. We are excited to dive into the results! Next week, testing will continue with the Spring iReady Assessment for Math. We ask that students bring headphones and ensure their devices are fully charged each night.

To help your child prepare, keep conversations focused on trying their best, taking their time and trusting themselves when they don't know the answer. iReady assessments do not impact student grades but they are used to make education decisions to best support student learning. These tests are dynamic in that they deliver questions to students based on how well they are doing - dialing up the difficulty when they show proficiency in a skill and dialing down the difficulty when they struggle. In doing this, it is a guarantee that every student will get questions that are beyond their current understanding. We encourage students to pause, think about what they know within the problem and make an educated guess. Reminding your child that this will happen will reduce anxiety when they get tough questions.

Results from both assessments will be mailed home with 4th quarter report cards, but we also encourage you to check in with your student about their test.

8th Grade Promotion Ceremony & Dance to Follow

Please save the date for the 8th grade promotion ceremony ahead! It will take place on Wednesday, June 8th at 6pm at Muskego Lakes Middle School.

• We welcome our 8th grade families to attend, but please know that we have limited capacity for seating. Therefore, we ask that you carpool if possible and know that when seating fills, there will be standing room available.

• Students will need to be dropped off at 5pm to begin lining up, with doors opening for families at 5pm as well.
• If a guest needs accessible seating due to health conditions or special needs, please reach out to Mary Amaya, Administrative Assistant to the Principal at mary.amaya@muskegonorway.org.
• Typically 8th graders dress up for the promotion ceremony, but formal attire is not requirement. Students will walk up and across the stage during the ceremony, and then the 8th Grade Dance will follow the ceremony. So, we ask that families consider the nature of the event and select attire that fits for a middle school event.

Last Call for Pictures for the 8th Grade Slideshow

This is the LAST CALL for pictures! If you have not sent in pictures of your child for the slideshow, this is your chance. Please send in your pictures by today. We are looking for pictures during middle school years for school OR non-school activities, sports, clubs, vacations, home-school COVID time... Any memories of middle school years.

The annual Best Buddies Friendship Walk is in May. This year, Muskego will be hosting its friendship walk on Saturday, May 21. To support and join the #WalkForChange, students, staff, and families can sign up with the Muskego Lakes Muskies team. Use the link to visit the Muskego Lakes Muskies team page in which they can sign up and/or donate to our team. When an individual contributes/fundraises $50, they will be able to get the Friendship Walk t-shirt shown.

Each year, the Warriors 101 transition program helps support incoming freshmen by facilitating opportunities for them to meet upperclassmen, run through their class schedule, meet their teachers, tour the building, bond with peers, and learn about co-curricular opportunities at the high school. Make sure you save the date to attend!

Tick exposure can occur year-round, but ticks are most active during warmer months (April-September). Ticks live in grassy, brushy, or wooded areas, or even on animals. Please see the following link from the CDC for more information. LINK

Muskego High School will be kicking off the annual Summer Movie Series with Raya and the Last Dragon on Friday, May 13th! Parents and children are invited to come and enjoy a movie on Muskego’s Inpro Stadium jumbotron while they watch directly from the field. Admissions will be free and concessions and activities will be available. Although not required, we are asking families to bring non-perishable food items for the Muskego Food Pantry. Bring your family, friends, and a blanket to enjoy these free events!

The MLMS PTO wants to thank the excellent staff for everything they do by providing midweek munchies. Every Wednesday, you have an opportunity to sign up to bring in munchies for the staff to help them make it through the week and brighten their day.
