Week of April 23, 2023
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear EHTHS families,
We hope this newsletter finds you all doing well. Here are some updates on what's happening at EHTHS.
On Tuesday, April 25th, some of our students assisted the preschool classes on their field trip to the Funny Farm. They had a great time!
We are thrilled to announce that Erin Maegerle has been selected as one of only eight students in the state of NJ to earn a place in the highly competitive Rowan University School of Veterinary Medicine Accelerated BS/DVM Pathway Program. Congratulations, Erin!
The Nest & Eagle Greenery are hosting a Prom-posal contest through May 19. Only EHTHS students are eligible to participate. If you are interested in participating in the contest, first follow @shopthenesteht on Instagram. Next, post your Prom-posal to Instagram, tag @shopthenesteht and use #ehtpromposal2023. Finally, the Prom-posal with the most “likes” wins a boutonniere and corsage/mini bouquet for the prom.
We're in Week 2 of EHT Idol, and this week's group of singers is the most eclectic yet. We kindly ask that you share this link in your Google Classrooms and ask your students to vote. Remember, you must be logged into your EHT account to access the form. Voting is open from Monday to Friday. Here's the link: https://forms.gle/B7r5KZU3z5p6BGkz7
The EHTHS Interact and Gaming Club are hosting the annual Super Smash Bros Tournament on Friday, May 5, from 6-9 pm in the upper cafeteria. The deadline for team registration is May 1, and the captain's meeting will be held on May 2, in the Media Center Lab. There will be prizes, food, and drinks for competitors and spectators alike! For more information, email Ms. Miro or Mr. Gardner or join our Google Classroom: g4qxwxm.
Our aviation students visited the William J. Hughes Technical Center on April 24 for their annual FAA Stem Day. They had a fantastic time touring 18 interactive displays, information booths, and technology demonstrations showcasing the Technical Center's research. They also got to interact with FAA employees and learn about their careers. It was an enlightening experience for all!
Our EHTHS Orchestra had an amazing trip to Boston, MA, where they participated in the World Strides’ Heritage Festival. They also visited various areas of the city, including Salem, MA, where they learned about the history behind the Salem Witch Trials. We're proud to announce that the Orchestra received a Silver Rating at their competition performance. Congratulations to our High School Director Ms. DiSalvio and all those involved in making this trip a success!
On Wednesday, April 26, Ms. Reinhardt's World Mythology class attended a matinee showing of Hadestown on Broadway. The show intertwines two mythic tales -- that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone. The students enjoyed an unforgettable journey to the underworld and back. After the show students got to meet and have their playbills signed by Reeve Carney (Orpheus) and Eva Noblezada (Eurydice).
We are excited to announce our “Fairytale Prom” will be held on Thursday, June 1, at the Harrah’s Convention Center from 6 - 10 p.m. We are bringing the Red Carpet back to the high school this year. #DAY 1
The High School will be continuing with this bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams.
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
If you'd like more information on #Day1, please go to: https://tylerclementi.org/day1/

April is National Alcohol Awareness Month!
Which means it's a good time to reflect on the role that alcohol plays in our lives.
Most adults in the United States who drink alcohol drink moderately and without complications. At the same time, alcohol-related problems are among the most significant public health issues in the country. Alcohol use disorder (AUD) affects about 15 million adults in the United States, and an estimated 88,000 people die from alcohol-related causes annually, making alcohol the third leading preventable cause of death in the nation.
According to the 2021 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), 13.4 million people ages 12 to 20 reported that they have had at least one drink in their lives. This includes:
- 6.4 million males ages 12 to 20
- 7.0 million females ages 12 to 20
- 144.0 million White people ages 12 and older
- 23.8 million Black or African American people ages 12 and older
- 1.4 million American Indian or Alaska Native people ages 12 and older
- 10.0 million Asian people ages 12 and older
- 4.1 million people of two or more races ages 12 and older
- 35.2 million Hispanic or Latino people ages 12 and older
