Talking to our Children about the Invasion of Ukraine
Ukraine may be over 7,500 miles away from Hawaii, yet the tragic events overseas has a profound emotional impact on children all throughout the world. Children are naturally curious, and with so much access to information on the internet and social media, helping them process what they're seeing and reading is critically important. The article below is a good starting point on how to talk to your child about the invasion of Ukraine.
The authors of the article are states, "If you are a parent, grandparent, teacher or educator, you may ask yourself: Should I talk to kids about these world events? As both child psychologists and parents, we have grappled with this question too. In these times, it can be hard to know whether or not to discuss these issues with our children, and if we do, how should we go about doing it?
As the world navigates challenges and crises, we need to have a blueprint for how to have open and honest discussions with our kids so they can grow up as informed and thoughtful world citizens. "
Peanut Aware School
Here at Waikiki School, we have a growing number of students and families
dealing with serious peanut allergies this year, serious enough to be life
threatening. Therefore, we are asking our mindful school families to become
more “peanut aware” and avoid sending peanut products to school for home
lunch, snacks, birthday treats or classroom parties.
We thank you in advance for being aware of this. Should you have any questions
or concerns, please do not hesitate to call the school.
