Cahaba Elementary School Receives Grant from Action for Healthy Kids® and CSX to Advance Physical Activity and Healthy Eating Habits Among Students
Trussville, AL September 11, 2018 – Cahaba Elementary School is a proud recipient of a $1,000 grant from Action for Healthy Kids® (AFHK) for the 2018-2019 school year. The grant is provided through funding by CSX Transportation to expand student access to physical activity and healthy foods in school, improve knowledge and behaviors around physical activity and healthy eating, and engage parents in activities that reinforce healthy habits at home.
Cahaba Elementary School will use its grant to improve students’ knowledge through the use of the Organ Wise Guys program teaching proper nutrition and how to be healthy from the inside out while being active. Newly purchased physical education equipment will provide students the opportunity to put their knowledge into action and tasting new foods in the lunchroom that correlates to the foods of the month.
“We recognize the impact of physical activity and good nutrition on our students’ health and learning and are excited to create an even healthier school environment with the funding and resources from Action for Healthy Kids and CSX,” said Jaime Giangrosso, Physical Education Teacher.
Cahaba Elementary School is one of 225 schools receiving a CSX-funded grant along with technical support to implement its grant utilizing AFHK’s Game On program in the 2018-2019 school year. Since 2013, CSX-supported school grants have helped more than 1,600 schools implement health and wellness initiatives, impacting over 810,000 students.
