Weekly Update ~ February 28, 2022
From the Superintendent
Since OGS went mask-optional on Monday, February 14, we continue to monitor our COVID-19 case data closely. As you know, parents will receive notifications of any cases at their child(ren)'s grade level, which is in alignment with our communicable disease protocols. Since February 14, OGS experienced four cases of COVID-19 and zero cases reported from February 16. Let's hope this trend continues! As a reminder, the school community would be notified if OGS experiences any type of outbreak as deemed by our local health department.
Additionally, the CDC dropped their requirement of masking on public transportation (buses or vans) operated by public school systems. This update was shared to our parent community yesterday. I want to reassure you that we continue to monitor our data and communicate with our local health officials on a weekly basis to learn any updates related to COVID-19 transmission within our community.
Thank you for your continued support.

If you and/or your child/ren are interested in making a short video teaching words from your home language and sharing about your culture, please complete the survey. A sample script for the video is available. An example can be viewed here.
Anyone interested in hosting a booth for the fair, should complete this form. We’re looking forward to celebrating the many cultures that make up our community on May 14th!

Late Bus Update
As we head into the third trimester of the school year, it is time to make our final switch for late buses. We appreciate everyone's patience this year through each of the changes made to each bus' dismissal order. Please take a look at the following changes:
Bus 9 will leave first and come back for Bus 8.
Bus 13 will leave first and come back for Bus 4.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays Bus 10 will leave first and come back for Bus 7.
When necessary, depending on driver changes, we will continue to update families at the end of the day with BrightArrow messages alerting families of late buses. Thank you, again, for your patience, support, and understanding!
5Essentials (Reminder)
We are up to a 35% response rate and would love to reach 50%. Please help us reach our goal! Research derived from the Five Essentials for School Success has proven that schools strong on at least three of the 5Essentials are 10 times more likely to improve student outcomes. The survey participation rates impact our standing in the Illinois accountability system. Parents may use THIS 5Essentials LINK to take the survey.
