District Update - May 29

Superintendent's Message
First and foremost, Midview Local Schools would like to wish our community a Happy Memorial Day. As we enjoy the day with friends and family, may we never forget the brave servicemen and servicewomen who lost their lives protecting the freedoms of this country.
In a few short days, we'll be reaching the end of another school year and looking forward to all that the summer season has to offer.
Before we put the past school year behind us, I think it’s important to celebrate all that was accomplished. I first would like to thank our staff, administration, teachers, students, and families for their collaboration and dedication to making this school year so successful.
Our entire district has worked tirelessly to ensure each of our students reaches their full potential. We continue to be leaders when it comes to technology, we provide the highest standards of STEM education at all levels, our students give back to the community, our athletics and extracurricular opportunities further hone our students' leadership and teamwork skills, and our graduating class earned over $2.5 million in scholarships while also saving an additional $450,000 through college credit hours.
We’ve accomplished so much this year, and I know as well as everyone else that the Midview way is not to rest on those accomplishments. The Midview way is to build on our successes to continue to grow and continue to reach new heights.
While we are sad to say goodbye this Thursday – even for a short time – we begin this summer excited for what the 2023-2024 school year has in store. Enjoy the summer, enjoy your families and friends, and enjoy the possibilities that come with a season of change.
Take care,
Dr. Willingham

5th Grade Students Advances to 2023 Ohio Invention Convention Honda State Finals
Under the guidance of East STEM teacher Kim Kauffman, fifth-grade student Matthew Limpach has moved on to the second round of the Ohio Invention Convention Honda State Finals!
Matthew's invention, a Linear Generator with Alternative Energy Harvesting System, solves the lack of "small, clean, and easy ways to produce electricity" in the modern world. His design can be mounted anywhere for residential or commercial use - on a house, tree, boat, flagpole, tent, etc. Globally, it can be used in remote parts of the world where wind is present, including deserts and oceans. Matthew's invention will compete in the 5th-grade energy category.
All participants will be judged virtually in June and will attend the live Inventor Showcase and Awards Ceremony on July 22 at Ohio University.
This is Matthew's second time participating in the Ohio Invention Convention. Previously, he took home first place during his 3rd-grade year for his Wet Pet Safety Shield and attended nationals.
