Message from the Principal
JAJHS Families,
As we move into the busy holiday season and the days before break, I wanted to again express how appreciative I am to get to serve with your child! Our students continue to amaze me each day as they learn, grow, and create. I’m proud of our incredible teachers for their commitment to our kids and the creative and challenging ways they lead our students. JAJHS is a special place. As we prepare to move into the 2nd Semester, I’m so excited to see what is ahead for our JAJHS community!
December has already been filled with athletic accomplishments, musical performances, and academic gains. We have packed a lot into these few weeks!
As we approach the end of the 2nd Quarter and the 1st Semester, please check Canvas for updates on class progress and grades. The quarter ends on Friday, January 5th and printed report cards will be sent home on Friday, January 12th.
Lastly, during the 2nd Semester, we will be transitioning to sharing our grade-level curriculum updates quarterly. These updates will provide families with an overview of topics and content to be covered in each content area during the upcoming quarter. As always, you can view detailed information on each course’s Canvas page.
Please be sure to read the newsletter below for important reminders and activities around our school. As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out!
Sincerely,
Mr. Malany
Principal
Message from the Assistant Principal
JAJHS Families,
New this year, I wanted to celebrate and recognize the hard work our student athletes accomplish not only on the playing field, but in the classroom as well. Any fall athlete that earned a 3.5 or higher GPA received a certificate last week. We will also be doing this for our winter and spring athletes.
83 % of our fall athletes received a 3.5 or higher GPA in Q1. WOW! This just shows not only do we have amazing kids, but a staff and coaches that always put in the extra time and effort needed for our kids to succeed. THANK YOU!
Sincerely,
Mr. Moyer
Message from the School Counselor
I am a support resource for a multitude of student issues, however, conflict resolution skills are a top reason students come to me seeking guidance.
Conflict resolution is a delicate balance between assertively expressing personal needs and wants while also empathetically listening to the other person’s point of view to resolve an issue. Friendships are extremely important at this age and appropriate conflict resolution skills are imperative to a child’s social acumen. Below is a great example of appropriate and effective tips for resolving conflicts.

Lost and Found
Please have your student check our lost and found table located in the JAJHS lobby. We have several items including various lunch boxes, water bottle, and sweatshirts. Additionally, Mrs. Cazares has a couple sets of AirPods and a "trendy" necklace (not pictured), so if your student has misplaced these recently, please make sure he or she stops by the office.
Any items that are not picked up by next Wednesday, December 20th, will be donated.
JAJHS Winter Wonderland Dance
Our FIRST dance of the year is scheduled for Friday, January 19th from 7-9 PM. Student council and PTO have been working hard to plan this "Winter Wonderland" event. The cost of admission is $5 per person (Jonathan Alder JH students only, please). Drinks, snacks, and a slice of pizza will be provided with the admission cost, but additional concession type snacks will also be available for a small charge. If you are able to donate your time or resources, here is a link for your review! We hope to see you there!
JAJHS Band Performance
On December 2, students from the Junior High Bands performed in Small Ensembles at Christmas Under the Clock in Plain City.
Calendar Change
During the regular board meeting on Monday, November 13, 2023, the Jonathan Alder Local School Board of Education approved April 8, 2024, as a non-student, Teacher Work Day. April 8, 2024, is the date of an upcoming solar eclipse. Due to the safety and security of all students being our highest priority, in collaboration with the Village of Plain City, based on added traffic, visitors, and estimated time of the solar eclipse, students will not be in session that day. Please review the updated Academic Calendar for the 2023-24 school year, including the No School, Teacher Work Day on April 8, 2024.
Bring a Toy & Share the Joy
The Jonathan Alder Wrestling team is accepting toy donations for the fire station to give to local families in need from now until December 16th. There are donation boxes at the JAJHS in the office and in the wrestling room.
Washington DC Scholarships - Sponsored Needed
We have a number of students who have expressed a need for financial assistance with the 8th grade Washington, DC trip. If you are aware of an individual, family, business, or community organization who would be interested in providing one or more partial scholarships ($300) to support our students, please contact Mr. Malany (ryan.malany@japioneers.org). Thank you for your consideration.
Basketball Concession Stand Help Needed!
We need your help! In order to open concession stands during the upcoming basketball season, we need parents’ help with volunteering to operate concessions. This is a great way to get to know other families while supporting our PTO, students, and teachers.
Concession stand workers are given free admission to the basketball games that evening. Directions will be provided by the PTO.
Technology Guides
Medications at School
Sometimes parents ask that school personnel administer medication to their child during the school day. When this is necessary, we require written permission and instructions from the parent and in some instances from the doctor. The required form must be completed and turned in to the junior high office with the medication to be administered.
